Shimano R-451 Brake Caliper

Decent brake

I was just a little iffy about buying this brake, for whatever reason. I've put roughly 150 miles on since buying it and have had no problems with it.

Pros: Cheap
Looks good

Cons: None so far

Commuter Upgrade

I used these as a brake upgrade on an old steel frame, built as a single speed commuter. They added quite a bit of stopping power, even when combined with the old existing brake levers. Plenty of tire/fender clearance – I've got 28mm tires and planet bike 32mm fenders and don't have any problems. Note – the diameter of the attachment hardware is a little bigger than the holes in the Brake Bridge and forks of most older steel frames that I've encountered. I managed to get it attached by drilling out the holes in the frame.

Cons: Mounting may require frame modification or additional hardware.

Simple. Clean

Simple and clean calipers for my commuter. they don't draw any attention away from my wheels.

Pros: price.

Cons: none
