Soma Sparrow Bar

Classic look and feel for your SS or Fixie
Took my drops off and replaced with these.
Better than flat bars in my opinion as they offer a few more hand positions

Pros: Appearance
Several hand positions over flat bars

VERY COOL AND EVEN MORE USEFUL

purchased for a soma mixte frame set up. this is a comfortable bar with a definite 'speed' heritage. allows for upright or down position..we set it up down.
excellent stability and balance. quality is on par with nitto!

a very light bar

Pros: price, quality, fit, finish...weight!!

Cons: none

Great Feel; Amazing Ergonomics

Im tired of drop bars. And I can't stand the wrist position on flat bars. These seemed like a good compromise - so in the cart they went. When I got them strapped on and wired up, oh boy! These bars are insanely comfortable, brought my cockpit up to a respectable height, and look beautiful with Oury grips and simple levers. I love the feel, the position, and the look. And ring Soma made, they're very high quality.

Super comfortable bars

I put these on a girlfriend's bike and instantly wished I had my own set. Sweep back is perfect and being able to set them up aggressive or relaxed, depending on which way you flip them, is great.

Pros: Excellent shape, super good looks.

Cons: none

Nice bars, but with some quirks

I got these bars for an old rigid mountain bike, planning to use them in the "dropped" orientation. Unfortunately, the little bit of drop they have was enough that I couldn't find a fit that was comfortable without a really tall stem. Flipping the bars up it was easy to get a comfortable position.

The sweep of the bars makes them comfortable for leisurely rides under 10 miles or so, but there is only one usable hand position.

With the 520mm size, I had to push my MTB brake levers and shifters as far toward the bend as they would go to make room for standard grips. They fit, but just barely.

The silver finish looks nice.

I have these mounted upside down with grip tape and bar end shifters and they are exactly what I was looking for to make a track bike more city friendly. the finish is polished not matte like it appears in the picture.

Pros: unique shape, finish

This is a really neat bar. I purchased two. One in the 520mm size for my daughter and one in the 560mm size for a commuter bike. I used them in the drop position and I flipped them over for use on my daughter's bike. We both liked them and found them comfortable but they are not our favorite bar. I am always switching out bars and stems to try new things and this one is one I will probably go back to from time to time or set up for more permanent use if I build up a second commuter bike.

Pros: Love the unique hand positions and the ability to use different lever styles.
Nicely finished.
Acceptable weight.
Fun! Turns heads.

Cons: A little on the narrow side. I think my daughter liked them a little more than I did for this reason but bars are such a personal thing.

So many options

Although it might not appear so, this bar really offers a lot of options. It can be flipped for either drop or rise. It can handle bar end shifters and levers, or you could use clamp ons. It's relatively narrow, narrower than moustache bars which I had on before and feel as though the Sparrow gives better handling control. I really love this bar as it also works really well with a porteur rack.

Pros: Narrowish, lots of options (both hand placement and set up), really comfortable, decently priced.

Cons: The rise/drop could be a little less.

I've ridden these flipped either way. I prefer them as pictured almost like a shallow set of drop bars. They accept mtb style levers but they can also be used with hoods mounted on the curves.

Neat little bar. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with big shoulders, but it's really cute, and has some nice hand positions.

Soma Sparrow is Narrow

I originally bought these after using being happy using moustache bars on one bike. For the sake of variety I wanted to try something a little different but with the same options for hand positions. I put them on my commuter and immediately found the riding position to be too low and cramped so the were flipped, more like a northroad or albatross. Way more comfortable and upright. The 490 version however are more narrow than anything I've used, and whereas this can be advatageous in tight spots, you can't get the same leverage and take a little getting used to.

Pros: -Flexible: can be used like drops or flipped for a more upright riding position
-Several hand position options
-Fit bar-end shifters

Cons: -Narrow: less leverage and can be awkward for turns at low speeds

I was pleasantly surprised to find out this bar was much shinier than I expected in silver. It is the only bar that I know of that exists in this shape at such a narrow width. The grip area doesn't extend much at all past where the bar connects with the stem so don't expect to get a closer reach with this bar.

Pros: fits bar-end shifters/brakes, shiny

Cons: ugly logos (in my opinion)
