Functional and weather-resistant I like all-steel drive trains for single speeds and commuters. I use these with Surly chainrings and have yet to wear one out. Pros: -durable
-corrosion resistant Cons: -more expensive than some Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: November 26, 2012 Reviewed by: Austin E., Florida Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Very reasonable track cog for commuters Steel is real. I expect this will provide years of hassle-free pedaling to and from the office. Pros: STEEL! Defective batch? 18t x 1/8" would not mesh with brand new 1/8 KMC D101 chain. Maybe the teeth were too square. Didn't want to damage chain and maybe a dremel on the tips of the teeth would've got it running smooth but on a $30 cog didn't think that was reasonable.
Replacement All-City stainless works great. UC handled the return no problems but I'm out 6 bucks shipping and a week plus without a cog.
Maybe just a bad batch and it was a pretty piece of metal but I didn't feel comfortable exchanging for another Surly cog. Pros: None, nice necklace? Meh They feel and look fairly cheap and are loud as can be. I sold mine after 100 miles or so. There are better cogs out there at this price point Would Buy Again: No Would Recommend: No Reviewed on: March 16, 2012 Reviewed by: Kasey D., Texas Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate

nice cogs Great quality, nice finish and smooth ride. It threaded on smooth and has not given me any issues at all. I purchased two of the 3/32 for a flip flop surly hub for my track bike and have been extremely please with them. Pros: quality construction, good looks and smooth ride! best cog i've bought recently made the switch to 1/8th and i feel like this cog will last with me til my knees give out.. it's burly and don't let those holes fool you, this is not a lightweight. threaded on super smoothly and you could tell the threads were well machined. no rough edges. Pros: great construction, variety of sizes Cons: i guess the lack of color options? This cog is the culmination of everything I've come to expect from surly thus far. It's gone more miles that any other cog I've had, and I wager it has another couple hundred miles to go. The stainless though is what seals the deal, I ride through slop and it hasn't shown the least bit of rusting. Well done, and at a price most can afford especially if you ride in any kind of less than dry weather. I love the Surly brand and everything they make seems to be high quality. However, this cog costs a bit more than some other brands, and yet works just the same. No value add for the additional cog except I get to tell people I am running Surly on my cogs! Wonderful product, worth the money Do not hesitate to choose a Surly cog. I have a couple of these and they are just so nice and well made, nice tall teeth, quiet on the bike. I've contemplated buying one just to keep on my desk as a memento of product manufacturing excellence. If you live in a world full of cheap, dollar store crap, auto-oriented suburbia, disposable digital gadgets and ephemeral digital existence, let your bike be an escape from that. Choose good stuff, and this is the goodest of the good.
The flange on one side will give you some choice over your chainline as well, which is nice. Pros: Solid, beautiful, durable, quiet on the bike. Cons: There are none. Durable Bought this as my first fixed cog (1/8", 16 tooth) and couldn't be more pleased with its performance. Not super expensive but also very round and very sturdy. I have no doubt that this cog will outlast many other components on my road bike, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again. Some have noted the weight as an issue, but I would rather have a solid cog than a weight weenie one, since your cog is put under extreme stresses during any prolonged fixed ride. Bottom line: it's durable. Pros: -Durability
-Wide array of sizes
-Relatively inexpensive Cons: -Weight (somewhat trivial) Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: April 16, 2011 Reviewed by: Wade S., Washington Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Track cogs are one thing Surly knows (after being a SS ready company from the beginning). Great machining and comes in an awesome array of sizes. Pros: Heavy duty

Track Cogs would seem to be one of those products that are difficult to get wrong. However, going through many different brands there are definitely some that fail pretty badly especially with durability.
Surly is not one of those. Their track cogs are awesome, machining is impeccable for both the teeth & threads, plus they drill the larger ones which is a small, but nice detail. Where they score a touchdown is in the durability department. Even after 2-3 years of continual almost daily use they show wear, but are still very usable. Right now I have about four of these in various stages of use. Pros: Durability
Construction

Long lasting I've only ever used Surly cogs, I've had them on various bikes and probably won't use anything else. Great quality, not the lightest, but way more durable for everyday use. Pros: Reasonable price, great quality. Cons: Heavier than other track specific cogs. The only cog I will use on my fixie commuter/putter bike. They fall perfectly in line with Surly's philosophy of tough, practical, no-nonsense products. No matter how I ride or what I ride in, I know that this is the one part on my bike that I don't worry about failing on me. It has worked great in 3.1:1 gear ratio. I'm a sprinter and power brake on my fixed. The Surly has taken the punishment. Pros: Durable and looks just a bit better than a no name cog. A standard in strong, high quality cogs I've owned more expensive or race-approved cogs, but the Surly has the best balance of strength, performance and finish. When I run these cogs, I hear less chain noise (probably less wear also) and my drivetrain performs with greater efficiency and smoothness. Finally, it's been my experience that these cogs are designed for more aggressive styles of riding and they really do inspire confidence, especially with skid or skip stops. Pros: Price, finish, quality performance. Cons: None Reviewed on: December 26, 2010 Reviewed by: Albert L., California Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
I have many of these cogs and I've never had a problem with them. They have so many options in both chain sizes. I still think my Dura-Ace cogs are a little better (and more expensive), but for commuting, these are all I use. Pros: So many options, good price, work great, durable. Cons: Not as precise as Dura Ace Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: December 05, 2010 Reviewed by: Brian K., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
