Put these on my Fargo in a 2.35" and they are big. If you want to have a slick and still fill the frame go with a 2.15. They are on the heavy side so beware in that respect. On the other hand they roll very smooth at higher pressures and are super cush at lower pressures...makes sense right. For multi use...like pavement pounding, skids, then hitting up a smoother mellow trail they are perfect. Pros: High volume slicks for 29'ers or 700c. Cons: Weight. Wow! Got 'em on my Fargo, and they're awesome! What a blast! When I'm off road, I just drop the pressure to about 35-40 psi & the ONLY time I wish I had knobbiest is in mud or wet grass. Otherwise, these are the bomb. For everything. They're fast, and the ride is divine. I love my Big Apples. Great Urban tires Purchased these in 2009 to use for my Kona Unit 2-9 single speed that I use as a commuter/urban bike in Austin, TX. The size of the tires allows me to take big hits (curbs, stairs, etc) with no problem while the smooth surface is great for riding on the streets.
2+ years of riding and only one puncture flat with all the crap on the road means they're tough. Pros: Very durable, big volume that gives a little suspension Cons: don't hold road very well when slick, especially in corners. Awesome tires!!!! These tires are awesome. Inflated it to 30 psi, and it rolled very smooth. Surprised how easy and faster it rolled. Probably pumping it higher would make it even smoother and roll even faster. Pros: Smooth, rolls fast, has a reflective ring on sidewall, absorbs some small bumps on road Cons: A little heavy Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 27, 2012 Reviewed by: John N., Big island, HI Was this review Helpful? Big, plush, awesome I bought these to run on my commuter, an old 29er mountain bike. I love how I can pump them up to 50 psi and roll fast, or let them run low at 15 psi and have a plush, road-smoothing ride. Pros: Rolls fast - a true "slick"
Lots of volume - smooths out road imperfections, no need to worry about pinch flats even at low pressures Cons: Heavy (comparable to a knobby 29er tire) Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: July 28, 2011 Reviewed by: Josh, Virginia Was this review Helpful? Schwalbe Big Apples on the Trails I love the fact that these can go down to 30psi and still have very good rolling resistance on the road. This low pressure works great for the trails, just understand their limits with wet stuff - my confidence with these tires wouldn't wince on the dry and hardpacked. Now, it's obvious that they ARE NOT a serious MTB tire, but some of us like doing 50/50 pavement/trail rides. These rides I normally hit on my cyclocross bike, but at least I know that the Big Apples work for the same concept. They even have the neato reflective strip on the side for nighttime visibility. Value add in my book.
If you ride like I do, and take a "dual-sport" approach to your rides, consider the Big Apples. They're just not for beach cruisers. Pros: Good for all terrains (except mud) Cons: Good for everything does not mean they excel in any one department. Mmmmm commfy These are great tires. I use them to commute, in better weather 2 or 3 times a day about 20mi, and also on my weekend bikepath jaunts. I was looking for something that "fit" my 29er mountain bike, and the skinny road tires just didn't do it, they looked wayyyy to weird. And I'm a form over function guy in most cases, but the skinny tires were just too much. Plus the extra sidewall really does soak up a bunch of roughness. I run them at 60psi and even on an hour long ride my butt doesn't hurt (bike is hard tail). The rolling resistance is low, I'd say it's definitely more than a real road tire, however it's better than a knobby. So if max speed isn't your primary concern this is probably worth a look. Pros: *Sweet looks
*Low rolling resistance
*Turn nice
*Comfy / low NVH (noise/vibration/harshness)
*Cheap Cons: *Heavy
*Fat, i.e. more resistance than a skinny
*Fitment may be an issue, my front deraileur can't be used in small sproket because they're so large.
*They don't turn well at high speed on dirt roads. Ask my arm/leg/side of my face how I know. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 01, 2010 Reviewed by: Dustin S., Arizona Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
