The plastic rim tape can slip. This stuff is the best. Stays centered and protects the innertube. Worth it.

Velox Rim Tape

Reviewing "Velox Rim Tape" is, in fact, a bit like reviewing room air or some other ubiquitous, beloved item. If you would like to cover up the sharp places in the spoke bed of your rims in order not to be side-of-the-road-sad, repeatedly changing flats until you run out of tubes in the dark (not that this has ever happened to me personally), Velox Rim Tape is there for you, friend.

Pleasingly old timey
Simple natural material
Sticks where you put it

Perfect length and thickness for 29" rims. As others have mentioned - not the same stuff as the stans for tubeless setup.

Velox tape is what you want if your not doing a tubeless setup. Get rid of the dinky oem tape and protect your tubes with Velox.

Tried and True

If you're not going tubeless (Stans or UST) then you'll need rim tape. I've been using Velox rim tape for several years now on traditional rims. Why? Because they simply work.

This is probably the only rim tape I've ever bought so I have nothing to compare it to. It worked great for me.

Good stuff.

This stuff is nice and thick with an adhesive back. So, it works well to protect your inner-tube and won't move around easily. I haven't had any problems with tires not fitting due to it's thickness.

Pros: Thick, adhesive back, was the correct length.

Cons: There are less costly equivalent products out now.

If you're not using Stan's or UST and you have open spoke holes in your rim, you better be using this.

Best spoke hole protector for tubes there is. I have taken it off and put it back on rims to do work and it always re-sticks itself. The best. Just don't buy too thin a size.

Velox is the best all around tape. It is lighter than straps and stronger than some of the light weight tapes out there.
I use velox on all my wheels.
Easy to put on, sticks well, easy to remove with no sticky residue.

Cloth rim tape is still around for a reason. It is exceptionally easy to work with, and it does a very nice job of staying in place and protecting your inner tubes.

Pros: Feels awesome to work with; stays put.

Velox Rim Tape

Rim Tape is rim tape. Velox doesn't creep in to spoke holes. I've made a felt valve stem gromet to put over the valve stem to prevent any valve stem problem due to the high pressures in the tubes being used....I never have a problem due to the rim tape hole.

The best

I love this rim tape. It looks nice. It feels nice. It keeps my tubes safe, and it sticks to the rim. I recently had to remove a roll of this tape from a rim to replace a bunch of damaged spokes, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was able to re-use it just by rolling it onto its original roll as I removed it and then re-installing it. Even on the second use it stuck to the rim and stayed in place.

Velox may not be the lightest, or the fanciest, but it plain works.

Standard for a reason

This stuff is amazing. One of those few bike products that is simply standard. I use it on all my bikes and have never had a problem with it. Great adhesion, easy to apply, stays put, and removes well when you need to take it off. Often its reusable as well. No reason not to go with Velox on this one.

yes, even rim tape can get a bad rap. But Velox has the industries leading rim tape. so if you want the best, use Velox tape

the gold standard in rim tape. I will never tire of wraping a new set of rims with this tape. At the years pas by it is always there, in the right place, never slips, dry rots etc. Just does what rim tape should

After fussing with some old elastic rim tape, I decided to switch to cloth tape. I don't think I will ever go back. This stuff just works, has for years and probably will for years to come. It is very easy to install and stays put.

Really should be the only choice

Velox-

Doesn't slip, doesn't lose it's tackyness, doesn't allow for spokes to pop through. Really sort of a no brainer. Lightweight stuff pales in comparison.

Pros: The best

Cons: Not as light as the lightweight stuff, but when the other stuff shifts, and you flat, sometimes several times in a row, you come back.
