Not a good harsh-winter lube

Boeshield was recommended to me for use in Midwestern winters, i.e. icy/snowy conditions with a lot of road salt & sand. The salt is the worst part, because it will rust out your drivetrain in a week if you're not diligent; add the sand that they put down, and it will start grinding away at your chain even faster.

This stuff won't cut it for snowy winters: it dries waxy, making it OK for rainy or dry conditions, but it will start to *attract* sand and salt granules very quickly. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's mostly solvent and some wax + oil compound. Because it dries in a semi-solid state, it won't keep the whole chain lubricated in cold conditions. It doesn't dissolve easily (which is good in rainy conditions), so it makes it incredibly hard to clean off (along with the accumulated salt & sand muck).

Pros: Multiple uses, easy application, strong solvent clears off accumulated rust

Cons: Dries tacky, attracts dirt, difficult to clean
