The Thomson seatpost design incorporates a bending fuse to prevent catastrophic failure. Over double the fatigue life of any other production models tested. The tube and head of the Thomson seatpost are integral-machined from one single piece of high strength 7000 series aluminum. The head is not pressed or bonded in. This allows for superior strength and minimum weight, allowing higher strength at low weights. The designs and materials have passed extensive life and ultimate strength tests. Easy on seats - allows seat to survive heavy impact loads without bending rails

Post and cradle are machined from one piece of 700 aluminum.
Accommodates seat tube angles of 62 degrees or more.

Thompson Elite Seatpost

I bought one for one for a commuter that I was putting together, and I feel like I wasted my money. I prefer a kalloy seatpost over this one. I'm not a racer, and don't buy the "hype". Got sucked into this.

Pros: Nice looking, Good "hype" from all the reviews convinced me to buy one.

Cons: Price, one of the adjuster bolts needs to be angled a bit more, small allen key strip easily. No weight savings over a Kalloy seatpost. Don't need bending fuse for commuter. Kalloy post has bigger bolts and better angle for adjusting too!

Not too hot. Not too cold. Just right

Are there cheaper seatposts out there? Absolutely.
Are there lighter seatposts out there?
Yeah.
Are there flashier seatposts out there?
Crabonmuch?
Are there stronger seatposts out there? Wouldn't be suprised.

But is there any seatpost out there that balances the cost/weight/strength/swank equation as well as the Thomson Elite? Not in my opinion. I have this seatpost on four of my bikes, mtn and road. Easy to set up and nary a peep once you get things dialed in.

Pros: -Appearance: Subtle from distance, gorgeous details up close
-Ridiculously good build quality
-Never busted one since I bought my first in 2001
-Easy to adjust and fine tune
-Unique and re-usable packaging (a smooth burlap-like cinch-sack easily reusable to store tools and such)

Cons: Could be less expensive, but the quality is worth it
