Is this the only road bar measured at the drops rather than at the top of the bar? I wished I would have read the above reviews first before ordering them. I am a fairly big guy and trying to talk myself into installing and giving them a try but I know in the end I will feel too scrunched up. Everything else about the bar looks great.

I am giving it four stars because it's stated measurement doesn't reflect it's true measurement.

Pros: Short, shallow and good looking.

Cons: Narrow.

Of the "traditional" handlebars made since the 1970s, ergonomics of the Nitto 135 can't be beat. These bars flare out quite a bit, and the size is measured at C-C at the drops. So, the 45cm version is about 42cm at the top of the bend, and roughly 43cm at the brake hoods. More importantly, if you're used to a standard maes bend bar (like the Nitto 115) the drop on the Nitto Randonneur is quite a bit more shallow.

Despite being rightly famous, all Nitto bars are really a bit of a throwback. For same amount of money, you can get stiffer bars made with better alloys and with updated clamp diameters (FSA, Salsa, etc.). All of the Nitto bars that are *not* heat-treated are somewhat prone to scratching or bending in accidents. This is not one of the heat treated ones, and the alloy is quite soft.

Pros: Timeless ergonomics

Cons: 25.4mm clamp threadless stems are getting rarer every year
Too easily damaged, out of date materials
