I installed this on a new-gen Lyrik. It went on fine, but visibly I noted that the tire clearance shrunk massively - note that clearance on the Lyrik is less than on the 36, but was ample until I installed this.
Riding, it just doesn't work. If it gets tilted just a little it rubs. But worse than that is on hard corners/g-outs, my tire knobs catch a seam on the guard, and make a horribly loud popping noise. I thought my fork wasn't installed correctly, or the headset was loose... until I realized after some safety checks that it's the tire knobs catching on the guard.
For reference, I am running a Conti Der Baron Projekt 2.4 on a 30 mm internal width 27.5" rim.
To it's credit, it did a great job keeping mud out of my face today. But I will be returning it (if I can indeed return a product because it doesn't work as it should - I mean, a Lyrik, 2.4" tire... that's not an uncommon combination... right?).
The Mudhugger I have on my 36 does not rub - not sure if that's more the Mudhugger or the 36, but I will be investigating other options as this is unbearable.
To be fair, it might work on a different fork, or with a smaller tire on a Lyrik. But there's no way that this will work with a Maxxis WT on a Lyrik despite it being advertised to work with up to 3" tires.Pros:
Cheap, light, looks good, keeps mud awayCons:
Rubs on a reasonable tire-fork combination to the point that it is unrideable.Would Buy Again:
