Galena Tire Review

I've been running these tires for about a month on my X-Fire for gravel riding. My first impression of them that they were a fast gravel tire but felt a little skittesh on the gravel. I've ridden other file tread "gravel" type tires and thought these had slightly less rolling resistance while lacking a bit in the cornering department.

My initial setup was 35-40 psi on a Stan's Iron Cross rim. I pretty standard ride 35-40 psi in my tubeless gravel setup. I've had Hutchinson, Specialized and Kenda tires all setup tubeless on this bike and that is pretty much the sweet spot. I ran the Galena's at those pressures and felt like I was floating on the gravel. A little disconcerting at first but after getting used to it not a major con to these tires. On the recommendation for the Terravail rep I have run them down to around 27-30 psi the last couple rides and felt the tire handles better at that pressure. I did not notice any increase in rolling resistance at the lower pressure. I haven't had any problems with the tires leaking air or burping. The setup was easy on my Iron Cross rims. Overall I'm happy with the tires.

One negative to the tire is the premium version is $85. A little on the high end for a tubeless tire but if they last worth the price. The other tires I've ran for gravel are in the $50-60 range but I go through two sets a season. If I can get a full season of gravel out of these tires it will make the added cost worth it.

Pros: *Fast rolling
*Easy tubeless setup

Cons: *Cost
*Cornering
