One year review

After having these for a year the upper has held up very well! The sole howeve has failed me in the grip department and after slipping a pedal more than I like, in not so stressful situations I'm tossing them. Don't want to risk a crash due to a shoe issue. going back to 5-10 shoes

Cons: Grip failure several times and multiple pedal slips.

Love it

I recently switched back to flat pedals and wanted to get into a new shoe. I had a. old pair of 5-10 Impact shoes that I handed down to my son so I was out one pair. I went with Shimano over the new 5-10 line after hearing from several people that the uppers were coming apart. I have been wearing Shimano shoes off and on since the late 80s and have always liked them.

These AM7s fit to the standard 43 foot size. Not too snug when wearing a wool riding sock but are secure on your foot. The inner ankle portion is raised and it feels good when riding. I particularly liked the covered lace flap. My first ride was a soaking wet day and my foot stayed very dry compared to my old 5-10 shoes.

The grip is not quite as tacky as the 5-10 but the harder you push the pedal the grip increases. If you let up a little you are easily able to reposition your foot on the pedal in contrast to the 5-10 which locked you in to good or bad placement.

Walking in the shoe was easy and in the dirt it did not give on a fairly steep section of the trail.

Pros: Good grip and can be repositioned with ease. Lace flap kept my foot dry. Over all good construction.

Cons: I was not a big fan of the slim tension strap, I think a ratchet system would be a better fit for securing the foot
