Excellent brake pad upgrade from stock
I installed these on our Miyata DupliCross MTB Tandem. What a HUGE difference in stopping power, especially for the rear brake. I'm interested in long term performance and wear. With that said, super nice product so far. They install and setup easier than the stock Shimano pads. These pads do not squirm when aligning them to the rim and you're tightening down the nut to align all the washers. The Shimano pads are terrible in this regard as they squirm all over the place during this procedure. These ProMax pads are also quieter. And, as I mentioned earlier, come with a ton of stopping power. They have a linear feel too; much more linear in feel than the Shimano pads and provide the same stopping power with less lever effort. They also provide more stopping power overall and can really bring the bike down to a stop in a hurry or lock the rear wheel if you dig in. All of that power feels very controllable and not so "on-off" like the stock Shimano pads. Appearance wise, they look really cool. I bought the sedate Gray/Black colorway, but I could see the appeal of the other, brighter colors. Maybe next set I'll get some Red/Black pads for some bling. They sure are eye-catching.
I have gone for a few rides with the wife on the bike. From the first ride, she noticed how much more smoothly the bike was stopping. As a Stoker on a tandem, she can only hold on and pedal. So, things like that matter to her. She's a fan of these pads. She also wondered why I didn't get them in the cool colors... Next time. As for me, I'm super-impressed with their performance. Makes my job as a Captain that much easier. I do everything I can to make sure my Stoker has a good time and is comfortable and feels safe. These pads help a lot in that regard. I'll update this again when I can comment on their longevity and long-term performance and possible wet-weather stopping power.
I'm giving them 4 Stars until I can comment on long-term wear and performance and wet weather stopping. I'll update this at some point in the future.Pros:
Stopping Power, Ease of Installation, Cool Colors and Appearance, PriceCons:
They don't come as the stock pads on Shimano V-Brakes...Would Buy Again:
