Solid go-to chain

Not too much to say about this chain other than it works when needed and without issue. While a few grams heavier than more expensive chains, it works 100% as well.

Pros: Cheap and dependable

Cons: Not as flashy as lighter, more expensive options

Solid chain, but prone to corrosion

I bought this chain to use with a single-speed setup, and for that purpose it's worked well--smooth, quiet, and durable. However, after only 4-6 weeks of use the side plates have developed substantial corrosion, which appears to be moving to the inner plates and rollers as well. I can only guess that this is a byproduct of simply cleaning the chain, because I have never ridden in the rain and the bike is stored in an area of controlled humidity. I don't know if this is something common to all SRAM chains, but I would at least not buy this particular chain again.

Pros: Relatively light, quiet, durable (except for the corrosion), Powerlink

Cons: Mysterious and rapidly proliferating corrosion/rust

Not the lightest, not the heaviest, just a good chain. I'm a thousand miles in (road bike, fair weather) without issue.

No Drama

This one has become my standard 9sp chain. A few dollars more than the PC951 but seems less prone to rust after wet rides. You can go to the all-silver PC991 for even more $, but I see the silver-on-gray as a cleaning indicator. If the outer and inner links look the same, it's time to clean! :) SRAM chains have never let me down, and I've been using them for a loooong time -- since the 5-speed Sedis days.

Pros: The chain is reliable and the master link is also simple and reliable. Shifts well. Runs smoothly and quietly. No fussing with (or running out of) "special pins". Looks good.

Cons: In terms of what's available, no Cons. All 9sp bike chains are too expensive and too short-lived. The price we pay for so many cogs.
