Revolutionary

My inseam is 940mm with 20" femur so these are perfect. My first ride was easily 4mph faster than my best recent effort compared to 175mm cranks. Felt right, even after 40 years on regular cranks. Finish is very good everywhere except the granny gear bosses. They are heavy, but all things considered. My BB is 280mm off the ground.

Getting the correct spindle length was challenging. For a 1x, a 110mm IRD spindle gave me a perfect 49mm chain line on the big ring position, 172mm Q factor, frame clearance 140mm between the arms. Cranks are offset to the drive side by about 1mm. Crank bolts and covers not included.

Pros: Cheap and long. Nice finish. Square taper.

Cons: Square taper. Heavy. No crank bolts. Wide Q factor.

Manufacturing flaw, poor QC

Spider had a forging blowout under one spider arm. Quality control at IRD must have been asleep on the job, as this was a glaringly obvious manufacturing defect.
This should never have made it to the warehouse. Universal has been great to deal with in the past, so I'm not worried about resolving this with them, but I don't have any confidence in IRD to replace it with another set.

Really unfortunate, as long cranks in a 5 hole 110mm BCD are hard to find...

Cons: Serious and potentially dangerous manufacturing flaw; poor quality control.

Perfect for Tall Guys!

I have a 1046cm crotch-to-floor measurement indicating I need 219mm cranks. After testing my current cranks (175mm) with a 1" piece of hose taped to pedal bottoms to simulate 200mm cranks, I bought the 200's. The 220's would have had some ground strike issues so I opted for the 200's. After 3 commutes here are the results- I posted my fastest average times and speeds ever on my commute- and felt better after each ride! The quality of these are excellent and my LBS installed for only $33 with a new Shimano UN55 122.5mm spindle length BB.

Note: Ensure your BB spindle length (width) is correct or even widened from stock to accommodate these longer cranks so they don't hit your chain-stays.

I am totally impressed for the price! I must also say the service is awesome at Universal as I received a very nice personal (NOT a canned template!) email thanking me for my order. I am a first time customer, but will definitely be back!

Pros: Length, strength, Finally- somebody cares about the Tall rider!

Cons: Not made in 210mm which would have been ideal in my situation.

Amazing value!

These cranks are perfect to outfit non-race bikes. A bit heavy for racing and require older square taper bottom brackets. But by far the best deal around for getting long cranks on more bikes!

Pros: Value, strength.

Cons: Weight, funny shape on left side.
