I'm not a fan of this tire.Check out my review of the 26" version. Can not replace or compare to studded tires. Not even close! Don't waste your money! I would have returned it after trying.
Don't let the title fool you!I bought 1 of these to try after reading that some people use a studded tire up front, and a winter tire in the rear, to save weight and speed. Don't do this! Too many wipe outs!
Extends your season to all yearPut them on the Adept last Friday and have been riding around testing. Rode ten miles into Arvada and ten miles back yesterday. Dealt real confidently with the occasional patch of ice or packed snow on the way there and back. Allows one to continue riding through the winter with very little interruption here in Denver. Rode it on a street completely covered with packed snow and ice from curb to curb, testing braking and accelerating. Quite trustworthy. Rode up a bike trail with melting ice, stayed up. Not good riding at an oblique angle into hummocks of snowplow debris, but that's kind of beyond the pale. Like any snow tire, traction is improved the further you go below freezing. Tried it on a bike path which had only some foot tracks and a single truck track on it in 4" deep melting snow. Sunk to the base in that snow and tended to want to swerve if you hit a packed strip, but was able to stay up and forge on without dabbing nonetheless. I think the 26" size, which is a lot wider, would to better in that kind of place. I'll still corner gingerly, but stop and go on the straight work quite well.
