How do you rate shoe covers when they all fall apart within one year of use? Though the material is good quality neoprene, the soles disintegrate and the zipper falls apart after a few months or consistent use. The rear velcro strap doesn't hold after fastening. The bulky rubber toe also rubs on the crank.

Pros: Keep your feet warm and relatively dry.

Cons: They fall apart after consistent use after one winter.
Poorly designed closure system.

Almost perfect design

I live in Olympia, WA, where it rains more than either Portland or Seattle, so I have some experience riding in the rain. The design of these, in my opinion, is ALMOST perfect. A velcro rear closure instead of a zip would be a major improvement. I'm on my 2nd pair b/c the zip broke on the last one. They lasted 3 years. The tread on the previous pair was too aggressive on the sides so it rubbed against the crank arms and made this insane squeaking noise unless I was riding in a steady, unrelenting rain. I had to sand them down. The new pair doesn’t seem to have this problem.

If you ride frequently, the zipper on these will likely fail eventually - unless you lubricate it. I use regular old Chapstick. Anything waxy will work, I think. I just now started doing this so we'll see what happens. As it is, I still believe these are probably the best shoe-covers on the market. They are warm and virtually waterproof. My feet get cold easily, but I can wear these with wool socks in 30-ish weather for up to an hour with no issues. Anything longer and I have to use foot warmers.

As with any shoe covers in rainy climates, wear your tights OVER the top of them, and seal the shoe-cleat interface on the inside of the shoe with duct tape. Both these measures will help prevent water getting in.

Pros: Warm and virtually waterproof

Cons: Zipper
