Great value for the money; functional and sturdy, but limited fit.

I purchased this rack for my cargo bike (a Soma Tradesman) a couple of months ago to increase the carrying capacity of the bike. I found it didn't work as well as I would have liked with that bike, so I pulled the Tubus Logo Evo I had on my daily/commuter bike (a 58 cm Soma Double Cross Disc) and put this one on instead.

Like some other reviewers here have mentioned, there can be some issues with installation. If you have a very small or large frame, this rack is unlikely to fit your bike at all. It fits my Soma DCD but I had to invert the stays to make it fit (they angle UP to the seatstay braze-ons instead of down). As other reviewers have noted, there is no side to side movement for the clamps that mount the stays to the deck of the rack, and this is a significant limitation.

That said, setting up my Ortlieb Back Rollers to fit this rack was actually easier than getting them to fit on my Logo Evo, and they also come off and go on easier than with my Logo Evo. The rack seems sturdy and I have no issues at all with my panniers interfering with my pedaling. I've noticed a little difference in weight distribution with the slightly higher positioning compared to my Logo Evo, but only when carrying heavy loads like groceries. The main thing I like about this rack is the extended rearward facing loop of the rack that supports the body of the panniers. It braces the pannier and allows you to carry heavy loads without having the panniers flopping around and potentially hitting your rear wheel when carrying a lot of weight. The rack also has excellent clearance for fenders to fit underneath as well.

In short, this is a great value for the money if it will fit your bike. If you're looking for a good quality inexpensive commuter rack this is hard to beat. If you're looking for something for touring, this is NOT what you want to get (see "Cons" below).

Pros: - Sturdy, good design for carrying heavy loads; keeps panniers very stable even when carrying heavy loads.
- Inexpensive and a good value for the money.
- Deck is very solid; has a thicker reinforced section running the length of the center of the deck.
- Deck is also nice and wide for carrying things on top such as a sleeping bag or tent.
- Good value for use as a basic rack for commuting.

Cons: - No separate/lower mounting rail for panniers, makes strapping items onto the deck difficult. Raises weight up and contributes to top-heaviness with heavy loads compared to other racks with a separate set of pannier rails.
- Relatively heavy; weighs a fair amount more than my old Logo Evo, so much so I can feel the difference in weight just by holding the two racks in my hands.
- Difficult mounting because of the limited adjustability of how the stays mount to the deck of the rack; unlike the Logo Evo where there is a significant amount of adjustment.
- No additional/optional hardware for mounting to frames of different dimensions; here the Tubus racks beat this one hands-down.
- Not at all well suited for touring.

Great rack

Super simple and sturdy. No rattling, or obvious weak points. It can fit the weirdest frame shapes. What I find that I really like about this rack is the bottom horizontal tube (bottom right/middle of the photo) Having this tube makes is really easy to use bungee cord or fit panniers easier and more securely.

Pros: Sturdy, fits oddball frames, bottom horizontal tube.

Cons: none
