Good idea, but their newer design works much better

These were a good idea and I used them but never loved them. I liked using these better then using frame stickers but these needed to be looked after to make sure they stayed in place. The newer mini tube tops work much better, but you can only install them when you install the cables. These you can install anytime you want.

Pros: better than frame stickers
protect your frames paint

Cons: don't always stay in place

Jagwire Tube Tops housing covers

I needed something to quiet down my cable impacts with my bike. This can be damaging over time. These are a nice change to putting clear stickers all my bike

Pros: Easy to install. They slip on over the cables without removing or uninstalling the cables Quiet down the impact of cable rub and strikes on a loud aluminum frame

Cons: A bit spendy.

Protect your frame/paint/finish

I didn't want cable rub to ruin the paint/finish on my bikes. Applied these to the housing in the hopes of doing so. So far so good. Only time will tell I guess.

Pros: Ease of installation
Protects against cable rub

Cons: Can come loose

I love these things for protecting my frame from cable rub! Look a lot better than taping up the frame!

Pros: Prevent cable rub thru paint on frame.

Cons: Cost - ridiculous for what you get! Had to knock them down one star for that.

I wish these were around a decade ago. My first high quality racing frame has smudges all over the head tube from a decade of cable housing rubbing against it.

I used these a new build in late 2010 in conjunction with Jagwire housing, and they have not let me down. While they sometimes migrate or rotate a bit on the housing, I have never had one pop off. Most importantly, my head tub is smudge-free over a year later. Their next generation product is even better than these in my opinion, but, as it has to be slid over the housing, you cannot install it unless you disassemble your bike. The benefit of this product ios that you can just pop them onto your housing and go - no tearing down your bike for installation.

Pros: Smudge-free head tube.
Easy/quick to install over the cable housing without any disassembly of bicycle.

Cons: Design allows for migration along/around the cable housing.

Nice touch for custom build

These snap on over the cable housing. They keep the cable from rubbing on the frame. Its a nice touch for a custom build and these work good. They don't fall off or become loose on the cable and slip around.

Pros: Fit good, work well, good price.

Cons: none

Save your paint

I have tried lizard skins frame protectors at the spots where cables hit the frame and the adhesive ultimately fails. I've only been on 3 rides with these so far, but they certainly have stayed put. They don't feel that sturdy but until I start losing them, I consider them successful.

Pros: Protects frame, stays put

Cons: Looks like they may come loose

Does what they're supposed to do by cushioning cable housing and preventing it from rubbing against the frame. Depending on the layout of your frame/cables, you may need several of these to achieve complete protection . . . which is probably overkill unless you're protecting the topcoat on a super-fancy carbon frame. Inconspicuous if color-matched to your cables; unsightly if not.

Tend to pop off - decided it was better to protect the frame instead of the hose.

Pros: Neat idea

Cons: Hard to keep on, kind of pointless.

The covers snap on over your housing.. and not very tightly at that. I have them on my commuter and they move around and come half off at times. I haven't lost any yet but I gave some to my friend and he lost them on the trail.

Nice idea but could've been better made.

Saves the paint (and your sanity)

Although these are saving my frame's paint from rubbing cables, there is a secondary benefit - they dampen sound. I was being driven insane by strange oscillating resonance noises & no matter how well lubed the drivetrain, shocks etc were, it wouldn't go away. Finally figured out it's the cable housing vibrating & rubbing in several spots up against the bike frame. These things cured it. Yes they can slide around a bit but none have fallen off yet. Make sure they are the right size for the cable you will put them on.

Pros: Saves paint, dampens annoying noises

Cons: Can slide around if the cable moves a lot

These are a very convenient way to prevent paint damage from derailleur housings. They seem to be holding onto the housings well (I haven't lost any yet) and have prevented the typically scrapes and buffs from housings brushing against frames. I prefer these over the sticker-type protectors as they don't yellow, peel, or attract dirt.

protect your paint but can fall off. Good idea but they need to redesign so they are more secure. I have lost a couple so now I occasionally squeeze the clamp ends on the ones I have left.

Pros: protect your paint.

Cons: Need redesign 'cause they fall off

It's the little things that make the difference

These little guys fit over your cable housing to prevent them from annoyingly rubbing your paint off at the contact points. They work and they are easy to install. What more could you want?

Pros: Easy to install.
Do what they are supposed to.

Cons: ???

They don't snap as securely over cables as advertised. The first two I installed went missing after the first ride. One of the replacements went missing after a few rides, but one has hung in there...

Where were these 10 yrs ago?

At first glance you may think of these housing covers as frivolous. Once you install them on a new bike or even the old bike you still love riding, you'll thank yourself (and the inventors of this nifty little gadget). Cable rub on any surface of your bike sucks. With it's split design, they're easy to install where their needed and the hourglass shape help keep them in place against your frame.

Pros: Protect the paint finish on your frame/fork.

Cons: Got to keep an eye on them, if they're on a position that moves alot they come off.

These are super-easy to install, but I've lost a couple over the years. They work great, but I wish they had a little more "wrap" to secure them.

Jagwire 'tube tops' cable housing covers

Great for protecting nice painted frames from cable rub marks, they also help to keep cables quiet. Available in Black and White colours. If you don't care, don't bother.. but it you do care, then these are the best. Tip: for hydraulic lines make sure you buy the larger size (5.5mm) or the small ones will look unsightly.

Pros: Another good product from Jagwire!

Cons: Only 4 in a pack.

These things help save the expensive paint job!

I have used these little guys on several bikes now and nothing this easy to use comes close. Just check where the cables are touching the frame and pop one of these little guys over the cable. No removing the housing. Very durable as well. I have moved them from bike to bike over time.

Tired of cable rub on the paint job, try these!

Pros: Easy, cheap, work great

Cons: Nothing
