I bought these fenders in 2010 to be used on my bike during a long tour. I found the quality to be high, they were durable and worked well throughout the ride. However, they were a real pain to get onto my bicycle. I'm not sure what the issue was, because I was putting them on a 700c bike, but it required a lot of finagling to get them to fit. I actually ended up having to cut and modify some of the pieces to get them to work. Another issue I had with these is with the way the fender stay attaches to the fender, with the endcap and the bolt. These were much to tricky to get on there.
After my tour, I rebuilt my bike and bought some Planet Bike fenders from Universal Cycles. I found that the served me just as well, and were much easier to get on. Pros: -Worked well once on the bike
-Were inexpensive Cons: -A real pain to fit onto bike
-Design for attaching stay to fender could use work Would Buy Again: No Would Recommend: No Reviewed on: April 27, 2013 Reviewed by: Matthew S., Connecticut Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
best looking plastic fender on the market. Easy install. Pros: low profile, great price Cons: I wish they came in a mat finish black plastic. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: August 28, 2012 Reviewed by: aaron Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Good quality for the price. I had a hard time fitting them to an older Peugeot. I don't think it's the fault of the fenders, but rather the low clearance between the brake bridge and wheel of the bike.
Adjustments are quick and easy to accommodate many bikes. I would probably purchase these again. Pros: Affordable, quick install, keep that road spray off your back and legs. SKS P35 700c fenders Work great survived many rainy rainy commutes with these Pros: easy to install Cons: none Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 16, 2012 Reviewed by: Brett C., Washington Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Classy I got the silver version, and it looks very nice on my vintage tandem. They are skinny, and fit well on a bike with very little space for fenders.
The front has a break-away safety system. I haven't had a wreck with these, so I don't know if it works.
But I have had a competitor's fender get bent out of shape from a simple low-speed fall. So the SKS may prevent something like that. Pros: Not too hard to adjust, and they stay in place.
Break-away system.
Nice silver color Cons: Not a lot of coverage in the back, it may throw gunk at someone riding behind you. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: October 08, 2011 Reviewed by: Matthew S., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
I have SKS P-series fenders on two of my bikes and have set them up on three other bikes for friends and family. Here's the thing with these fenders: they're more than a bit fiddly to install, but once you've got them set up, they stay put and seem to be bulletproof. I've had my oldest pair for about four years and nearly 4000 miles, and they're still perfect . . . no cracks, no adjustments, no problems. Three tips. First, the newer ones come with these funny-shaped plastic caps for the fender stays that I think you're supposed to insert into the fender mount/bracket itself? These are a pain to work with, and I threw them away when installing fenders on a friend's bike. Second, once you've got the fenders where you want them, take the time (with a Dremel) to cut off the excess stays where they protrude past the top of the fender itself. This looks better, and it prevents you from getting snagged/scratched by the stays. Third, don't hesitate to bend the mount where the front fender attaches to the fork crown, since a little tweaking here can result in a much cleaner-looking installation where the front edge of the fender nicely follows the contour of the tire. Pros: lots of different sizes for most applications, durable, solid mounting system, cleaner feet and drivertrain Cons: fiddly installation, fiddly installation, fiddly installation Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: August 05, 2011 Reviewed by: Matt, Michigan Was this review Helpful? Great for plastic! These fenders exceeded my expectations. They are pretty easy in terms of installation and if you put in a bit of effort can mold them if need be. But because they are relatively easy to mold, they have to potential to mold themselves (in ways I wish they didn't) but that's plastic fenders for you. They are fairly sturdy and stand up to an additional light if you choose. Do a great job doing what they are meant to do, keeping the rain and mud off of my back. Pros: Sturdy, moldable, prevents dirt and grime Cons: Metal fenders will usually look better Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: July 30, 2011 Reviewed by: Daniel A., California Was this review Helpful? Easily shaped with a heat gun Are all fenders not created equal? Not in this case.
Lightweight fenders, with great coverage. Having the breakaway mounts on the front fender is a nice touch and (by accident) provided enough clearance for disc brakes.
Plus I discovered that because of the plastic used, they are very easy to shape with a heat gun. Makes fitting in funny spots easy to deal with. Pros: Moldable, Safe, Lightweight, Cheap (until you ask to have them shipped) Cons: Have to pay freight if you want to ship them anywhere. Durable and sturdy I put a pair of fenders onto my rando bike about a year ago figuring that they'd disintegrate over the summer and I'd then have to turn around and buy a pair of metal fenders to replace them, but here it is one year on and they're still going strong despite having been used for about 7500 miles of brevets and commuting.
They're quite sturdy; I attached a taillight to the rear fender, and mudflaps (from Planet Bike Cascadia fenders) to both fenders and they take the load as if it wasn't there. The only problem with them is that, as plastic fenders tend to do, they are a little warped, and the front edge of the front fender is a little cockeyed (I dealt with that problem by brazing up a low front rack so my rando bag covers up the fender imperfections) but that does not stop them from keeping road grime off me and the bicycle frame. Pros: durable, sturdy, solid mounting struts Cons: a little warped, the front fender is not quite long enough Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: March 25, 2011 Reviewed by: David P., Oregon Was this review Helpful? sturdy and stable I found these easy to install. They attach to your fork and rear dropout eyelets which makes them stable and secure. I had to shorten the fork stays. I used some ferrules around the bolts to space them outboard from my disc brakes. You might need to bend the stays slightly for a good fit. Taking extra steps to make them fit right is well worth it. Pros: Very stable and secure.
Quality hardware. Cons: Had to shorten some of the stays for a good fit.
Need extra hardware to mount with disc brakes. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: December 11, 2010 Reviewed by: Dr. Dew, California Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Good fenders I've had these on my commuter for years and look horrible anymore. They're really beat up, hardly stay in place and the little plastic thing that connects the metal to the front fork is broken. They still work though after years of abuse, which is a wonder. Sure the polished metal fenders look better, but these things are nearly indestructible. Pros: They offer good protection from road muck and last a good long time. Cons: They're cheap plastic fenders... no matter how you look at it. I'm still giving them 5 stars because they've held up for 8000+ miles of PDX commuting and more abuse than they really should have to endure. Once you figure out where all the hardware goes, these aren't so bad to install. I have 28c tires on my bike (fixed gear) and I did not have enough clearance for the front fender. Most road bike should be fine as my frame is pretty small and has tight clearances. I have the back one on now, and it does the job well, looks good and seems to be holding up fine. Pros: price, look good, does the job well Cons: installation instructions are not very clear. If you are running larger tires (28c+) make sure you have decent clearance between the fork and the tire or else the front may not fit well.
