Good rim for the price.

Used these for a basic mtb.

Pros: Straight and true.
Eyelets.

Cons: Machined sidewalls.

I build my own wheels, and ride enough miles to wear out the braking surface (it's the winter riding...) in a year or two. Alex Adventurers are terrific value -- can't imagine getting a better rim for twice the price. It used to be that you had to spend $$$ to guarantee roundness, or eyelet strength, or machined braking surface; but in this day and age, no more.

I'm reluctant to complain about Universal Cycles because they have consistently met all my expectations. But this time, they shipped rims drilled for Presta, when the website specifically says "Schrader" (in two locations!). I can drill out my own rims.... but I'm disappointed. If you order these, clarify which valve drilling you want. Don't rely on their web page.

5 stars for the rims; but 1 star for the product mismatch to the web page.

High quality rim

I built the wheels for my touring bike using these rims. The rims were easy to work with, building up straight and true, and have remained that way after 3 - 4 years of constant use. "Stainless steel eyelets when featured" in the writeup is confusing; my rims came with eyelets and I expect all rims exported to the USA probably have them. My 26" rims are drilled for Presta valves and all Alex Adventurer rims are available in both Presta and Schraeder drillings. Excellent value for the money.
