Shimano Steel Skewers

I needed something very quick, as I lost my skewer coming home from a road trip (luckily didn't loose the wheel), so I grabbed these because the price is right, and have had them on my bike for 6 or 7 years now. I have seen absolutely no issues with them. They still bite into the dropouts very well and prevent any wheel slippage.

Pros: Cheap!

Cons: Not the lightest available.

I prefer Shimano skewers because they use the superior internal cam design. This is especially important on disc equipped bikes. This model is a bit heavy but not too expensive. Shimano does make lighter skewers with the same design. When weight is not an issue or cost is the issue this is the skewer I prefer.

Pros: Internal cam is the only proper way to make a quick release skewer. Don't ride a disc equipped bike without one.
Good value.

Best skewer type on the market--the internal cam is patented by Shimano so most others have an external cam, which tends to get sticky.

Pros: Smooth action, ultra reliable

Cons: A bit heavy
