Sram Chain

Needed a Sram chain.

Pros: Magic link, makes it so easy

Cons: wish chains lasted longer in the NW. Mine don't seem to last long. User error likely

Although this is the low end 9sp offering from SRAM, I have used them for years without incident. Love the powerlinks

good chain for the 99 %

I have 3 bikes running 9speed cassette . shimano xt to be specific. to keep wheels interchangeable every bike gets a new chain every 6 months. I have gotten better service out of this model than higher end hollow pin version.

Pros: works great on xt cassette. inexpensive, user friendly power link.

Cons: none

Works well

No issues with this chain. Put it together with a quick link and had no issues on my setup (1x6, Ultegra rear derailleur, and a bar end shifter mounted to Paul thumbie).

Pros: affordable, strong, shifts well

I typically use the slightly nicer pc-971 chain, but this chain is just about as good, and it's cheaper! Compared to the pc-971 this chain is hardly any different. I would only recommend a nicer chain, if you have a tendency to break chains. For the price though, you can't find a better 9 speed chain.

Pros: PRICE

Cons: durability

Best Dual Use Chain Out There

I recently had a knee injury. It happened right after buying this chain, which I was using for SS. I bought another masterlink and in minutes, had it functioning as a 2x9 set up. Really fantastic deal- great chain, great price, easy to swap from one purpose to the next.

Pros: A perfectly capable 9 speed chain for an unbeatable price. Why buy anything else?

Cons: It keeps my Shimano chains on the shelf.

Sram PC-951 Chain

In my experience, the SRAM PC-971 chain is the best value in the SRAM line of chains. I like the (included) Power Link method of joining the chain in that it provides tool-less removal options for cleaning. I have not had issues with Power Links wearing differently/faster than the rest of the chain.

Pros: Price/value for a consumable part (even cheaper than the excellent PC-971)
Compatibility with 9 speed Shimano drivetrains
Power Link makes install and maintenance easy

Cons: Lack of snazzy SRAM silver link plates
Power Link can be picky to assemble/disassemble initially
Does not wear as well as a PC-971

Easy removal for cleaning is a requirement for all the rain riding I do. I had been using KMC X9.99 chains and purchased a couple of these as a less expensive alternative. I don't notice any performance or durability difference.

Pros: Durable, shifts well, and easy to install and remove for cleaning.

Cons: Not shiny

I cannot tell thedifference between this and the more expensive chains from SRAM.

Pros: Good shifts at good price. No difference in shifting between this and the more expensive models.

Good enough

If you're not racing, I don't know why you'd bother to get any of the higher end SRAM 9 speed chains - they're the same as this one, but shiny, or shiny with hollow pins.

My last one lastest two years, which is absurd as far as I'm concerned. I'd be thrilled with one year!

Pros: Lasts. Price.

Cons: Not shiny, if you care about such things

Did it's job. For a little.

I bought this chain based on the good reviews. After about 4-5 months of riding it started to break regularly in random locations.

Solid, dependable chain

May not be as light as a more expensive chain, but you certainly get lots of bang for your buck.

Pros: Powerlink (I love 'em!) for easy chain removal, strong, inexpensive

Cons: Heavy

The PC-951 saves a little money over SRAM's PC-971. In my mind, the 971 is worth the extra coin, but if a few bucks matters this chains will be reliable, albeit a bit heavier than the 971.

Powerlink

This is the easiest chain to install I've ever used. The master link is dead simple to install, and can even be reused in a pinch. I've ridden a set of these chains 3,000 miles before they gave up the ghost.

Pros: Master link is light years easier than others I've tried

works, easy to mount

I tend to buy the cheapest Sram chain I can find. They all seem to be about equal in durability.

I've been using these for years on geared and even singlespeed bikes without any failures. When properly lubed and maintained they will last for a long, long time

The fact that they come with a PowerLink saves me money over having to buy one for a Shimano chain.

Good chain for the price

I typically run a 971 or 991 chain; however, for the budget minded riders, the 951 won't let you down.

- strong
- reasonable price

Works like a chain should. Lasts longer than the high end chains.

This is your run of the mill middle grade chain. No frills, no holes, no milling to cut massive weight. And you know what? It's just a touch heavier than those fancy, expensive chains. When it comes to it during crunch time, it's stronger for it and you don't have to worry about the chain breaking. It lasts longer because it resists the torquing the lighter chains might fold with. A great buy and will last you a whole season if treated well.

Pros: low cost, strong, easy to install

Cons: heavier than expensive chains

For the price, it's a bargain. Like others have said, chains wear out fast. Unless you're goal is to stand on a plywood box with your the plastic gold medal, this is fine for non-race applications.

Pros: Cheap, strong

Cons: Not light.
