Shimano BR400 Brake Levers

Nice action but a little thin for my hamfist.

I've used these for years with no problems other than they're a little thin for my big hands. The action on the lever is great though. I wish they'd make a beefier version similar to those offered by Cane Creek or Sram.

Pros: Nice lever action, price and durable.

Cons: I wish the hood were beefier.

A great, and more importantly, svelte brake lever. I don't like the bulky, Ergopower-inspired Tektro levers, and these are the only alternative out there.

The grey plastic bit is for protection and aesthetics only, but can break/crack in a fall, and cannot be replaced. The body, however, is steel, and is indestructible. The upgrade to the BR600 gets you better (black) plastic, and is probably not worth twice the price of these.

Very Nice lever for the price. Great fit and finish, and quality feel.

Much nicer than anything in a comparable price range.

Hoods are of the old shimano design, and feel small for riders with big hands. Shimano really needs to update to the new STi Hood type.

Shimano brake levers

Nice, basic brake levers for those who don't want STI.

Pros: Cheap, light, nice enough shape.

Cons: I don't care for that plastic piece at the lever/hood junction.
