A part you can't live without. Got it for a rigid cromoly fork and it went in without a problem with the right tool. Pros: inexpensive, seams to be better made then the other ones I've dealt in the past. Cons: none. This is a well-exucuted star nut. It's hard to believe you can get so much functionality for so little money these days. Pros: Installed easy and stayed put. Adjustment bolt threaded in perfectly. Cons: None. Reviewed on: April 14, 2013 Reviewed by: Brad M., Washington Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Hey guess what. It's a star nut. It does what it should and went in without to much hassle. I do like the fact that it has 9 "teeth" instead of the usual 5. It is a starnut... Not really sure what to review here, as most star nuts tend to fall in the "It is a star nut" sphere of the world. But here is all you need to know- they work and they are inexpensive. Pros: Cheap, works. It installed easily and has stayed put ever since! What more could I ask for? Truely a set it and forget it piece of equipment! Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 25, 2012 Reviewed by: Geoff R., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Will never use a different design/brand, if I can get this one. The double-star design makes for a more precise set, and more reliable against pullout or tension change. The threaded fastener consistently falls dead center in the tube and stays square. Do yourself a favor, invest in a quality star nut setter, and use these starnuts... it's not worth the hassle to try and cheap out. Pros: Double-star design

threaded fastener is centered and vertical Cons: Nada... Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: August 18, 2012 Reviewed by: CLAY A., Louisiana Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Great Quality , locks up super tight in the steerer tube.
Fits far better than the absolutely terrible star nut that comes with CK headsets. Pros: Great fit

i don't know what to say about this starnut except that it went in easy and hasn't budged since. This is one of those components that you want to install once and then forget about forever. Luckily, it seems like this cheapo nut allows just that. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: July 28, 2012 Reviewed by: Adams C., Tennessee Was this review Helpful? Better than other starnuts I've tried. Held it's place and never gave me any trouble. Pros: Works. Cons: Don't try to install without special tools. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 22, 2012 Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate

This starnut works well but I do recommend using a starnut setter. Lately I have been using locking headset spacers to keep the proper tension adjustment once it is set using the starnut. That way you can remove the stem for travel or replacement without having to readjust the tension every time. Pros: Works well for initial tension adjustment. Cons: Need a setting tool for easiest install. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 11, 2011 Reviewed by: Jay, Always moving Was this review Helpful? Not sure what to say about a starnut, but it installed perfectly and has never slipped or anything. Wouldn't hesitate about buying another when I need it.

My preference for loading a threadless stem is to run a length of all-thread down to the fork crown and tension it from the bottom. But this requires that I pull the front wheel (and carry the all thread, nuts, and washers I need) so it's not terribly useful for dialing in bike fit.
At $4, a generic starnut is cheap enough so that I can wreck one and not cry bitter tears; instead, I just get another one and go on my way. Pros: cheap, and it works Cons: starnuts really want to be installed with a nutsetter, because if they go in too crookedly they'll then slide up the steerer tube instead of jamming into place. Changed my life I always throw a couple of these into my order. I've saved more than a few installation projects for friends by having a star nut on hand. Never had one of these pull out, even with extended abuse. Pros: It's a star nut Cons: You have to bang it in straight, and i'm too cheap to own a setter. Really? People actually write reviews for star nuts? What can I say? If you pound it in straight, it will work fine. If you screw it up on a Salsa Fargo, note that you can't pound it all the way through and start over--it hits the lower fender nut. Ask me how I know this. Pros: It works if you install it right. Cons: You may have to buy a spare in case you don't install it correctly. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: November 16, 2010 Reviewed by: Eric D., Ohio Was this review Helpful?
