I got the X2 because I needed a +17 rise, which they offer. It is functionally fine and plenty stiff, I'm just a little uneasy about a 2 bolt face plate in rough conditions, this is their road stem though. I'd have gotten the X4 if it had the right rise. Amazing CNC work These Stems are simply beautiful and amazingly stiff.
Lots of fitment options to dial in your optimal position.

o kay fit and finish is excellent (i run the masterpiece seatposts on all 7 of my bikes)
couple of issues. the face plate came loose on couple of rides and the steerer clamp cannot hold tight enough on carbon steerers. even going above the torque specs, after a couple of rides, there would be headset play meaning the stem has slipped (and no its not my frame, the compression plug also slipped). Pros: fit and finish

I almost never see these out on the road, and I'm not sure why the X2 doesn't get more attention: this is a strong, gorgeous stem that looks right at home on modern road bikes with 31.8mm bars. Plus, the 17-degree model is a fine way to "humanize" the position on more aggressive frames. Double-check on the Thomson website, but I believe the key difference from the X4 model is the 2-bolt faceplate on the X2. Also note that the X2 is approved for some cross-country mountain bike applications.

The standard in stems. Can't go wrong with one of these. They offer a lot of options and the finish is superb. I like running my fingernail across the grooves just to remind me of the quality. Much like the X4, this has to be of the nicest stems available. Thomson doesn't always make the lightest components, but they sure are durable and look great. I was a little worried about the 2-bolt design on my Track bike with 31.7 Deda bars, but there has been no slippage whatsoever. The finish on this stem (silver) is amazing, and the machining is beautiful. The rise and drop angles compliment those of a road bike quite nicely. Strong clamp design - suitable for cross. It is an excellent fit for carbon bars and steerers as the clamp shapes are concentric and precise. Pros: Perfect for carbon components. Not the Lightest but a Solid Stem This is not the trickest or lightest road stem out there but it gets the job done. Nice selection of lengths and rises. Use a torque wrench or a light hand when installing the face plate. I cracked mine but got a replacement from Thomson. Pros: Solid and dependable Cons: Face plate can crack if tighten down too much. Thomson quality and craftsmanship are top of the line. The stem has a low stack height, but is extremely stiff. It doesn't have the gucci factor that a lot of the euro manufactures have. But it is simple, and it does what it is supposed to do; very well. Pros: Craftsmanship, stiff, simple, ect... After taking out all my spacers, I wanted a little more drop, as well as a more aggressive stance, so I went with these. They have the shortest stack height of any stem I've seen, great look to them, and are beautifully made. Very stiff as well. Pros: look
