Great design for cross country

I've tried many different brands and types of armor for cross country riding. My two complaints about most were either inadequate protection for rock hits and/or too hot. Plus many are just too big for small riders (5'4"). This is my favorite armor so far for cross country. I've had them for about two months and taken two good rock hits; the armor protected me well and didn't slide around at all. Behind the holes on the hard plastic cover is relatively thin honeycombed foam that allows good airflow so they are the coolest ones I've worn although all armor will obviously be hotter than going bare. Mine didn't come with instructions. OK, one would think instructions would not be necessary but these have an unusual method to attach them at the knee without having to unthread the top straps. You don't want to unthread the top straps because they are difficult to rethread. The unusual attachment system works well once you figure out the technique for securely snapping them closed and double checking to make sure they are securely locked. I also have the Fox Launch elbow/forearm armor and like those too. Both feel a bit odd when just standing around, but not on the bike.

Pros: Lightweight
Well ventilated
Relatively cool
Comfortable
Stays put
Easy on-off without having to remove shoes
Good protection for cross country
S/M fits short riders
Shin guard comes all the way down to top of shoe

Cons: You may need something beefier for DH
Took a while to get adjustment right
Attachment was confusing at first

A must have item

Great product. I have has these for two seasons now and I love them.
Great protection, light weight, and great strap design.
These are easy to put on and take off.
Non-binding on the back of my knees.
Easy unobstructed movement.
Lots of air flow. Not hot like the neoprene knee guards.
Hard front protection plastic is durable and protects you from trail brush and the sharp teeth on your flat peddles.
Several of my buddies have purchased these and love them as well.
I am an All Mountain rider and I have worn these on long all day rides with only a little chaffing on the front of the knee.

Pros: see above

Cons: none

Comfortable and Quality Protection

These guards cover your knees and shins in all the right places. They are not overly bulky and the crossing straps hold them in place perfectly. I went through several pairs of knee and shin guards before these and they are by far the best.

Pros: Fit well and great protection.

Cons: Bit Pricey

The best knee/shin armor

Let me first state that I have tried all the knee/shin armors from 661, Race Face, Dainese, and Fox.

The only thing I care to use are the Fox Launch Knee/Shins. To be honest, I am on my fourth pair. I honestly would not have legs if it weren't for these things.

The ventilation is great because it's an open strap system. They stay in place relatively well vs the other brands. Putting the brace on/off is so easy even a caveman could do it.

Only beef is that they should have designed the threads holding the plastic shin protector on a little differently. Over time, the threads will get damaged and the plastic shin piece will want to separate from the pad.

Speaking of the pad, perhaps use a little bit thicker padding or a different kind of foam for more protection on the impacts.

Pros: Comfortable
Excellent protection, stays in place
Easy on/off strap system
Ventilation is excellent

Cons: Threads holding shin protector easily damaged, causes hard shin armor to separate from pad.

Fox Lunch Knee and Shin Guards

These guards never move or slide on my legs. They are light and easy to carry in my pack until I get to the top. I have ridden a lot of XC with them on and they have never rubbed me wrong. They are super tough and have lasted me 3 seasons. Everyone in my crew wears them and we all love em.

Pros: Never move or slip and very tough.

Cons: Not super thick for hard impact landings, but offer great protection from scratches and scrapes.

Previously had some 611s, which gave good protection but were bulky - made me feel like Forrest Gump.

Pros: Good fit, tough solid knee/shin protection.
