Absolutely stellar shock.
Super plush with a progressive rate to control bottom out.
Mind blowing if you get it dialed, but you need to spend the time to tune it. Perfect for park bikes.
Make sure you get the right hardware for it. I didn't and it delayed the install. Doh. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: April 24, 2013 Reviewed by: John, British Columbia Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Best air shock on the market I bought this shock for my Ibis Mojo HD which I recently sold, but don't let that make you think that this shock isn't awesome. It is. It really opened up the HD. I did find that the bike pedaled no better with a CCDBa when compared to a DHXa, but when compared to any coil, it was leagues ahead. But what was great about this shock was that it made the HD significantly better at descending rough trails. No, I'm not talking about a few rocks - I'm talking about rock gardens and successive drops and large roots and chunder - stuff an XC bike won't go down. And the CCDBa really made things stable. I also noticed that since the rear tracked better that rough corners were easier because the rear stayed in place better and provided more cornering traction as a result.
I have since gotten a new bike which requires a different size rear shock, and am very happy with the CCDBa I got for it as well. I can say that it's easily the best air shock on the market. Take your time tuning each adjustment independently and you will be rewarded. Also consider that your bike will require a different amount of sag, so be judicious about setting that up. It may not be the most efficient pedaling shock on the market, but I didn't buy it to go up a hill, I bought it to go down a hill that I had to pedal up. For that, it wins. Pros: Dependable, adjustable, great at descending, good at pedaling Cons: Tool design for adjust could be improved, eyelets are non-standard size and require special size bushings. Adjusters look well-used after just a few rides (because you'll be fiddling a lot, but they don't stay pretty). I have a CCDB coil, which I love, and wanted to have an alternative shock to lighten things up a bit. This is one pound lighter than the CCDB with steel spring. The small bump sensitivity of this shock is incredible. There seems to be no stiction at all which is amazing for an air shock. I rate the small bump as good as the CCDB coil. The shock is obviously more progressive than the coil, and getting the last few mm of travel out of it has not been possible even with minimal HSC. However, the HS is quality travel - just not quite as good as the coil. Tuning the shock was easy, but I did need to use quite a bit more sag than with the coil (35% vs. 30%). Pros: Incredible range of tuning for a custom tune for any bike. Amazing small bump. Cons: A little too progressive. Cannot eke out the last few mm of travel. This air shock has every adjustment you could want out of shock. The ability to rotate the schraeder valve, without any special tools, on the body of the shock makes it fit just about any frame. I find the feeling of db air just as good if not better than the coil version. Pros: light, very adjustable, rotating schraeder valve Cons: a little pricey but universals vip15 discounts helps with that.
