2/3 x 9 (Bar-End Mount) Shimano Dura-Ace 7700 BS77 Shifter I recently converted a 10 year old Cross Check from a single speed to a compact double (34/50) x 12-34 9 speed. With a cheap-as-possible front der (Sora?), the correct spindle length BB, and these shifters, the bike shifts like a dream. Its drivetrain could not be improved.
I am certain that 9 speed Shimano with bar end shifters will be seen as a high point in human technological achievement in our electronically-shifted drone future. Pros: Package includes all necessary bits and bobs including cable ends, DT stops, under bb cable guide, shifter cables and housing as well as the shifters and bar end mounting pods.
Rear shifter's indexing is accurate and reassuringly solid (CLICK) in use.
I can continue to use whatever Frankenstein brake levers I had laying around. Cons: I probably should have purchased 2 sets as a hedge against them being discontinued. They are that good. These are great for a cross or touring bike Check it: I got longer (tandem) derailleur cables and housing and set the system up so the cables run fully inside the bar tape and exit with the brake cables, jsut like if I were running ergo shifters. Yee haw. After 6 years, they are still shifting away like champs. Pros: Works exceptionally well, just like Shimano stuff should. Hard to beat! I have had these on all my bikes now. Even bikes I have acquired that had decent shifters...I always wind up caving in and swapping to these. On all my recumbents, road bike, folder, and trikes these things do the job. I really only use friction mode anymore with these - they are "set and forget" as far as DR adjustments go. Pop these on a set of Paul's Thumbie's and you will be able to use a SRAM rear DR. Pros: Perfect shifts, friction mode, easy no hassle install. Cons: None. The most Versatile bar end shifters I could find. Great bar end shifters that can be indexed or friction, truly versatile, lightweight, and inexpensive option at shifting. I've had no issues, and they are truly comfortable as I have them applied on a swept back albatross bar. The index ring broke or perhaps was broken when I bought it. I down loaded the invoice form my Universal Cycles account and Shimano replaced it right away. Everything has worked well ever sense.
I have them mounted on Paul's Thumbies. Pros: Smooth and quick shifting. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: March 30, 2012 Reviewed by: Robert E., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate

Bar End Shifters Used the with Paul Bar End Adapters to make a flat bar bike. These worked outstanding. Nice crisp shifts and integrated perfectly with my Dura Ace drivetrain. Definitely high quality shifters. Simple and reliable.
I've used the rear in friction mode with an 8 speed cassette and then swapped the cassette and chain out to 9 speed and the indexing is spot on.
About 3,000 miles on mine so far with zero problems. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 14, 2011 Reviewed by: Alex, Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Good, precise shifting. They seem very solidly built, and were not too difficult to install. They do click quite a bit more loudly than STI or mtb shifters, so no more stealth mode with these, unless you're running in friction mode. Very nice to have the friction option. I only use the right shifter, and so cannot speak to effectiveness of the left. Cons: Loud click in index mode. bomb proof great shifters. easy to work on. not a whole lot to break. i've ridden CX races w/ these and have crashed hard, the shifters hold up and work just like the day they were bought. i have them on 2 bikes. Simple durable shifters These shifters, while not being as cool as STI shifters are FAR more durable. They shift great and are a great addition to my recent touring build! Dura-ace action! perfect simplicity. was looking for solid bar ends for my surly lht for touring. few moving parts so hopefully no problems. bar ends and downtube shifters cant be beat as far as reliability. Good shift leavers for handlebar or TT mounting. Love the friction shift setting as it enables use with 10 speed without problem Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 19, 2011 Reviewed by: David B., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Good responsive shift levers, nicely made. I am using these with the Paul Components Thumbies in the friction mode for shifting, so no review of the index capabilities. Good positive shifting feel with these levers Pros: Work well, good construction Cons: A bit expensive Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: October 18, 2010 Reviewed by: Terry T., Hawaii Was this review Helpful? buh bye sti, hello bar end! these are very dependable shifters! have been riding with them for over a year and they have gotten me through a 700+ mile tour and numerous long rides with no problems. i used to ride sti but i think i'm a bar end rider for life. they are more durable and promote more hand positioning on the bars.
Pros: -responsive
-high quality materials Cons: -pricey Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 28, 2010 Reviewed by: bobbyk, portland, or Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Good shifters. Friction only on the big ring works great. Index or Friction on the rear derailleur. Both work great. Pros: Dura Ace quality and function Cons: pricey Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 18, 2010 Reviewed by: RC, California Was this review Helpful? Not the lightest bar end shifters but they are built dura-ace tough. The choice between friction and index shifting in the rear is nice. You can finagle them to work with a 10s system in friction mode. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 16, 2010 Reviewed by: Michael T., Minnesota Was this review Helpful? Very nice quality and perfectly indexed rear shifting. Worked out perfectly on my touring bike where I wanted dependable shifters. Great shifting bar end I've put over 6,000 miles on these and have had 0 problems or issues. Optional indexed/friction mode for rear derailleur is good to have if you're out in the boonies and prang the RD. Indexing works well and is even more "positive" in engagement than the Shimano Ultegra brifters I use on my "go fast" road bike. Pros: Solid, very positive indexing, friction option Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 05, 2010 Reviewed by: Tom Y., California Was this review Helpful?
