Updated Review (after experiencing chain suck) After having an episode of chain suck with this device on my bike I have to tell others that I'd never mount this on another bike. When the chain suck occurred it wedged and bent the K-Edge device between my chainstay and the chainrings. The crank would not spin due to the suck deflector digging into the crankset. Due to the mounting method used for this device there was almost no way to get it unstuck. I was finally able to bend the device out of the chainring path and pedal home. This device will keep the chain from gouging your frame but the device itself will get the frame and chainrings. Best to avoid this product. Pros: Pretty Cons: If chain suck does occur the device will rotate around your bottom bracket then wedge and bend into your chainrings and chainstays. A very expensive and very poorly implemented product. Would Buy Again: No Would Recommend: No Reviewed on: March 04, 2013 Reviewed by: Josh K., Washington Was this review Helpful? No more suck??? A very nicely machined piece of chainsuck insurance. Chain suck happens eventually. Always nice to have a little peace of mind to help prevent it when it decides to happen. The item mounts up nice and clean but I do wonder if it will actually stay in place when/if severe suck happens. Looks like it might be able to rotate when hit strongly by the chain. I think it'd wedge into the chainstay and possibly dig into the chainrings too. Nonetheless, it fits nicely and is barely noticeable on the bike. Pros: Added peace of mind. Nicely machined. Fits well. Cons: Pricey. May rotate on BB if hit strongly by really ugly chainsuck. No more chain suck! My last muddy XC race I walked a bunch of hills due to chain suck. I just completed a wet 6 Hours of Mount Hood and never once had chainsuck despite the trail grit all over my bike. Even way down in the granny gear! Pros: Simple, easy to set up.
No more walking up hills after locking up the crank Cons: It could be cheaper.
Adds a spot for dirt/mud to build up right by the crank. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: July 02, 2012 Reviewed by: Bryan S., Portland, OR Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Light weight and works I have a couple of bikes that are prone to chain suck. I've given up on trying to stop it an installed these instead. They do the job nicely. They stop the chain suck from wrapping around and getting jammed in the bottom bracket area. It's light weight, and fairly straight forward to set up. Once you've got it set up you can forget about it until the next bottom bracket change. I did have to modify one for my touring bike. The sliver tooth piece did not go far enough to clear a compact double inner ring. I shaved a bit off the part that fits in the slot to get the extra bit of range I needed. I had no trouble setting this up on my mountain bike. Pros: Light weight, simple. Cons: May not be enough range for road bikes.
