Alright, so I bought this to run a 1X9 set up without a traditional chain guide, the only problem I found is that a 9 speed chain is still just narrow enough to wedge between your chain ring and this guide mounted on the inner ring, however with some fine tuning, or in my case a custom bottom bracket washer mount, it is very possible to create a set up where this is an effective guide, my personal set up uses a custom machined external BB washer which mounts this in the same way an iscg mount would work, (the washer is machined with arms to fit a 64mm bolt pattern) and with creative use of spacers i attained the desired spacing so that my chain no longer drops, however it would be very possible simply using spacers to adjust the positioning of your chain ring to gain the same desired spacing and make this work perfectly
Pros: My chain no longer falls off
Cons: Out of the box some tweeking is required to make it work perfectly, but overall its less costly than traditional chain guides
