Chain whip solid tool to have in your kit Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: April 06, 2013 Reviewed by: Jesse R., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Doesn't work great as a pedal wrench since the material is so thin, but serves it's purpose well as a chain whip. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: July 08, 2011 Reviewed by: MC, Colorado Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
For years, I used the Park SR-1 chain whip. That's a great tool, but it's pretty big (tall) and bulky. As I found myself traveling to races and needing/wanting to pack my tools a bit more compactly, I shelled out for the HCW-16, and I am happy.
This doesn't have a coated handle, but I've not found that to be an issue--just put on a glove or wrap it with a towel. Changing a cassette is easy and fast with this tool.
If you only need a chain whip for your workshop, get the SR-1. If you'll ever travel with it, get this one. Pros: Significantly smaller than the SR-1. Cheaper, too. Cons: No coated handle. Useful combo tool. Saves money by not having to buy a pedal wrench and chain separately. Chain whip has an excellent grip on cogs. Wrench loosens even the tightest pedals. Pros: Easy to use Cons: none Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 28, 2011 Reviewed by: Richard B., New York Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
chain whip It works better than an old piece of chain and some vice grips. Pros: Park tools last forever. Cons: It costs more than an old piece of chain. A necessary tool for any home mechanic. Plus, the wrench end can be used to remove pedals. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 12, 2010 Reviewed by: Matthew B., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
