fiddly to install but work great It took some time to install these and get them adjusted properly, since they are so much longer than normal. You also have to be careful when coming off a curb or carrying the bike, because the front mud flap extends so far down. But in exchange for those slight hassles, you have a bike whose crank and bottom bracket stay clean in the heaviest of rains, and feet that stay as dry as they possibly could. Pros: Most effective fenders out there. Great for all-weather commuting. Cons: Some extra work to install.
Requires extra care when carrying the bike. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: March 20, 2013 Reviewed by: David L., Portland, Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
The best fenders out there! I installed these on my commuter bike. I ride no matter what the weather and I wouldn't ride any other fenders. These are by far the best functioning fenders out there. Pros: Solid. Rattle free. Excellent coverage. Durable. Cons: None. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 13, 2013 Reviewed by: Noel B., Oregon Was this review Helpful? I love how long these guys are. The front one is about an inch from the ground, and NOTHING gets through to my shoes. Excellent. They're solid enough, too -- not like metal fenders, but good enough. Fenders are always a pain, but these are at least worth it. Reviewed on: January 05, 2013 Reviewed by: Jeff O., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Disappointing I'm no stranger to SKS fenders, but I'm really disappointed with these. They're overly flexy (compared to regular SKS P45s), and the mudflap reduces tire clearance (which isn't that great to begin with). Getting them to clear disc brakes is a royal pain, too. sweet fenders. they have plenty of coverage and the mud flaps splay out a bit for extra water wicking. they look awesome on my old blue Univega. Highly recommended! Perfect size for running 32s. I wish they had a alum. stay option though. That would cut down on the weight. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 08, 2012 Reviewed by: Daniel R., Washington Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
I HATE FENDERS BUT I LOVE THESE That's right. These are the exception. Easy to mount. Silent. Tires stay on. Very secure. Don't bend or twist.
Oh yeah, did I mention that nothing comes up at me from below when it rains. Puddles are conquered.
Oh, did I mention that twigs and leaves and large pebbles might get caught between the wheel and fender creating a noise that you don't want to hear...forcing you to dismount and pull whatever it is out, and go on your way...?
These really work...but i still hate fenders. Pros: pretty much everything Cons: they only come in one width Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 07, 2012 Reviewed by: Jeff P., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Very good fenders with some reservations I would rate the quality of construction and appearance of the fenders a 5, the instruction sheet a 2 and the ease of installation a 3. My first problem was realizing the front fender would not work due to the configuration of my sidepull brakes and front rack. This was solved by ordering the Sheldon's fender nuts which allow mounting the front fender behind the fork crown. This will be better anyway since it will be much easier to remove and reinstall the fenders later. However with the fender mounted behind the fork crown I only have 2 inches of ground clearance. That may work but I may need to either cut the flap shorter or purchase the shorter flap that Rivendell sells. No special problems with rear fender. The fittings to attach stays to fender are very awkward to use, take a lot of manual dexterity and ability to put up with frustration. The poor quality of the instructions don't help. Pros: Quality of construction, appearance, coverage Cons: fittings that attach stays to fenders, instruction sheet, front mudflap too long in my situation Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: October 15, 2011 Reviewed by: Linda , Oregon Was this review Helpful? planet bike cascadias!!! The mounting hardware is horrendous. I accidentally used the included locknuts to install to my fork crown and could not remove it when I realized I could not adjust the stays on the 45mm fenders to get it to fit my 700x35mm tire arc. I had to cut the metal fork crown mount off from the fender and then destroy the locknut.
The plastic stay tips do not work with the nut/bolt combo to keep the stays attached to the fender.
I didn't actually have any problem with the clip at the dropout eyelet ends.
I really regret deviating from the proven planet bike cascadias to try this mess. Pros: nothing Cons: mounting hardware, also fenders were twisted in shipping and could not twist them back. Good Long Coverage Fender Put these on my Salsa Vaya. Coverage on the front is good and long. Had to bend the front stay to get them around my disc brake, but other than that, fairly easy to install. Appear durable.
Only gets 4 stars because the sliding clip broke on the rear. Easily replaced with a cheap part. Pros: Good coverage. Durable. Replacement parts available. Cons: Sliding clip broke - easily replaced. Had to bend front stay for disc brake (not really the fenders' fault...) Reviewed on: August 16, 2011 Reviewed by: Nick Z., Washington Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Very good coverage I mounted these fenders on my 2008 Bianchi Volpe to keep me dry when riding on wet roads. Install is time consuming though fairly straight forward and enough hardware is included to provide several different mounting options so they should fit most bikes easily. They seem very sturdy, look good on the bike, and are quiet when riding. They are long and provide very good coverage. After an hour long commute riding on wet roads and through puddles I arrive dry. Pros: Coverage, looks, lightweight, sturdy, quiet Cons: Install is a bit time consuming but worth the effort.
