You get what you pay for
I have now bough two pairs of these shoes and both have suffered the exact same problem. I bought my first pair around January/February 2011 and rode almost daily for a majority of the year with no problem from these. One day in March 2012, while taking a corner too sharply, my pedal touched the ground and broke the sole, leaving the cleat in there, but loosely hanging on the cracked sole. Within days, I saw that Universal Cycles had the same pair of shoes for a very decent price. I bought them and had no problem until recently (December 2012) when, for no reason, the sole cracked again (didn't hit the road) left my cleat stuck and I fell over because I was not able to disengage the cleat from my pedal. I'm not sure why the sole cracked, but it completely destroyed my shoe.
If I could, I'd rate a 3.5 as a balance between my first and second pair. Just remember, you get what you pay for.
Pros: Multiple cleat choices
Feet breathe easily in these shoes
Cons: Hard to walk in
Sole seems to break easily
