expensive but... good Im using the edge 500 for more of 2 years, change for this model has much advantages the touch screen work well on ride, with good response, if you ride on dark you can check your dates without necessity to find the lateral bottom to light the screen.
Yes is so expensive... but good value. Pros: light on screen at one touch, rapid response to change screen Cons: expensive Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: April 24, 2012 Reviewed by: Mario C., California Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Best Garmin GPS yet This newest Garmin Edge 800 GPS unit is generally a great improvement over the already great Edge 705. I highly recommend it. Pros: Accurate, clear display, easy controls, includes highly accurate temperature. Grade display is now very accurate and precise to 0.1 percent, and with software update 2.4 appears to now work at low speeds on steep climbs. Cons: Expensive. Shorter battery life at around 13 hours versus 18 for 705. Software versions through 2.2 could not support rides over 500km without serious system crashing. Great product I own the edge 500 which is a great product in itself. However, I wished the 500 had a map function. The 800 now takes care of that in addition to the touch screen which is intuitive. You can have as many maps on the unit as long you have enough memory on your micro ad card. I have a 8g card. Apparently you can have up to a 32g. You can only have one map though if there is any overlap. The unit picks up the sateillites very easily and quickly. It tracks accurately. For its size and weight it really packs in the features. The screen is as big as the 705 even though the whole unit is smaller. If you have the garmin car charger, you can use it for navigation like a nuvi unit. The edge 500 is great for training and road. The edge 800 really shines in the backcountry assuming you have the appropriate maps. Pros: Small unit

Great GPS Upgrade This is my 2nd Edge product from Universal Cycles, i had the 705 and wanted to upgrade to the 800 when they announced them. These new ones are Fantastic. I prefer the new Touch Screen over the previous buttons too, this new unit is a little smaller and lighter too, plus the added Temp Function is handy and i find myself using it often. The edge cycling products from Garmin are some of the best out there and if you are into GPS and Mapping, plus want the Normal Cyclometer functions, then this is the Unit to have! Pros: Smaller, Lighter, New Bigger Screen, Touch Screen Feature Cons: none Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: December 28, 2010 Reviewed by: albert, California Was this review Helpful?
