Pretty good tire. Not as good on the back as a Crossmark, nor as good up front as an Ignitor, but it does roll faster and is lighter than both. Good for hardpack, but if things get lose at all (or wet) get something else. Also, never flatted a Maxxis tire running tubeless in over 1000 miles on them, so very reliable. Pros: Fast, good grip Cons: not good on lose Would Buy Again: No Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 28, 2013 Reviewed by: Ryan J. Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Review for Ikon 29 EXO 2.2 - fantastic cross country race tire fast, grippy, light. The EXO sidewall is well worth the price, and this is one of the priciest 29er tire. I wish there is a fatter version like 2.4 for the front. Pros: Light
Fast Cons: Expensive Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: December 27, 2012 Reviewed by: Nino, Norcal Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
I like the width, weight and fast rollingness of this tire. The silkworm one seems to live up to what it promises. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: December 10, 2012 Reviewed by: Pat C., Washington Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Fast tire! This is a super fast rear tire and grips nicely. I haven't tried it tubeless yet, but I plan to do it. I haven't had any flats running tubes. Pros: Fast and grippy. Cons: Price? Great rear tire I am using this as rear tire on my Epic 29'r. It has surprising grip for such small knobs. It also seems to clear mud quite well. The volume of the tire provides a nice cushion as well. Pros: Grip, weight, low rolling resistance, and tough sidewalls. What is not to like? Cons: Haven't run across any negatives on this tire yet. Amazing Traction and Low Rolling Resistance Just got these tires to run for XC races and I am impressed. They are very light, shaved around 350 grams off of my bike. Most notably these tires have great traction. I was somewhat skeptical when I took them out of the box, as the tread depth is very shallow and the knobs are tightly spaced. I was pleasantly surprised to discover how well these tires hooked up on steep loose climbs. They also corner very well, I run them around 40 psi which seems to be the sweet spot for me, achieving low rolling resistance and good traction/cornering. Great race tire. I would not purchase these to train on or as a do it all tire, because there is some sacrifice in durability and reliability to achieve the low weight that these tires boast. Pros: Low weight.
Great traction.
Predictable cornering Cons: Not a wet weather tire.
High price relative to other tires on the market.

Best Tires I've Used... Maybe Ever. Love this tire-- I'll come out and say it. Hooks up on a variety of surfaces, and really flies when I'm hammering down the trail. The standard. I've now had both, and unless you race in an area with no rock or sharp edges ANYWHERE, I would strongly recommend getting the EXC casing version-- they add some weight, but some extra sidewall protection is very welcome.
They've lasted a good long time for me as well, which is nice since they're not cheap.
If Maxxis would come out with a 2.4 version, I might just think I've died and gone to heaven. Pros: Fast--rocketship like
Gobs of traction
Good volume
Good wear Cons: Has a 200lb limit printed on tire... I've had no issues at 230 with gear... but I've seen this limit nowhere online.
The standard has thin sidewalls-- first tire I've ever ripped with a rock-- but this is a race tire.

a new favorite this is a great dry/mild weather tire. excellent rolling resistance and grip in the turns. i'm running this as a front on my FS 29er. predicatable cornering and tracking under braking. tough sidewalls so far although i'm not in a really rocky area.
not the greatest in the wet but decent. Pros: rolling resistance, side bite, cornering Cons: a little $$$ Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: May 20, 2011 Reviewed by: josh t., California Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Ikon 29er Maxxis, has out done themselves with this tire. it has amazing grip in all condition. i havent ridden muddy, so I wouldnt expect it to do to well in muddy situations. However, all other conditions this is the tire. Super light race tire, that is durable in rocky sections.
I hightly recommend the tire for anyone looking to shave rotational wight and still wants great traction. Pros: weight, design and quality Cons: price Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: April 05, 2011 Reviewed by: Kyle R., Texas Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
perfect 29er tire for almost all conditions The Ikon EXO is my new tire of choice for almost every trail out here in Colorado. Grips well on hardpack and loose over hard pack, has great cornering grip despite low profile knobs, and rolls quick. Best part is you get a really light tire and the EXO casing really seems to stand up to a lot of abuse. Going tubless was easy and don't have any leaking issues. Have heard they wear well too so there's not much to complain about here except maybe the price but you can usually find some deals. Pros: Grip, rolling resistance, sidewall strength Cons: cost? Compared to schwalbe though, not too bad.... Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: April 05, 2011 Reviewed by: Anth Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
