Avid XX Disc Brake Caliper and Levers. The all-new two-piece forged magnesium caliper allows for greater stiffness and performance in a lighter-weight package. The oversized pistons give you more stopping power with less lever pull, for easy one-finger braking.
- Leaving out the Contact Point Adjuster saves 9 grams per brake
- Magnesium lever body and caliper
- Titanium Torx T25 hardware
- Stainless steel rotor on an aluminum carrier
- Includes standard and Matchmaker X lever clamps
- Pre-bled with hydraulic line connected to the lever
- Includes rotor and adapter for 51mm (International Standard) mount and 74mm Post Mount Front
Avoid this product!
For those who are thinking about taking the $$ plunge on a set of good lightweight brakes, stay away from the 2011 World Cups, they are defective! The 2012 may be fine but do not buy the 2011 unless they are deeply discounted and you have time to repeatedly bleed and service these brakes. Also, if you follow Avid's instructions you have to use organic pads, which are harder to buy from a local shop and cost more then metal scintered pads. The pad requirement is due to the magnesium body on these which apparently heats up too fast - they changed the design after only one year because of this.
Also, since I lost the bleed at least four time so far, I noticed on the third bleed that the orings were starting to deteriorate and black specsbits were coming out with the fluid. I can only assume that the internal seals as well as the orings are poorly designed for these brakes given my experience and the cou ntless others I read about on mtbr.
Pros: light
When working, good feel and power
Cons: Magnesium body on caliper is bad design for heat and therefore forces organic pads and risks possible heat failure
Bad seals internally requires regular bleeding and premature failure(check the forums)
Way too expensive for a product that should have been recalled due to baddangerous design
If you file a warrenty clain they replace the 2011 model with a 2012 product anyway.
