These shoes have amazing pedal grip in any conditions, sometimes too much actually. They ran true to size for me, so order what you normally wear IMO.
Pros: Great looking, durable, grippy as heck Cons: you have to tie them Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: April 02, 2013 Reviewed by: brandon, Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
I usually ride clipless, but have been doing more freeride and jumping, and wanted some platform pedals for it. I was riding in Vans, but I now see the difference in bike specific shoes. The stiff soles help with foot fatigue. My Vans would leave me with sore feet after a couple hours. Problem solved with these shoes.
The outsole is super grippy as well. Couple these with a good set of pedals, and you'll think you're clipped in. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 22, 2013 Reviewed by: Drew, Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
So far my favorite pair of flat pedal shoes for All mountain and trail riding. They are light weight and handle hot and cold temperatures well.
The sole is the stickiest I have tried but could be just a bit stiffer. Reviewed on: January 15, 2013 Reviewed by: Keith H., Massachusetts Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
These have a relatively firm platform but conform well to pedals and grip very well. Comfortable fit and well cushioned for landings as well as the inside of the ankles. Also good for hiking and scrambling because of the grip. Five ten shoes also seem to last longer than other shoes I have tried. Pros: Great grip and very durable. Comfortable fit Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: December 30, 2012 Reviewed by: Stephen N., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
quality stylish riding shoe Well, I'm getting ready to purchase a second set of five tens after riding in this pair for the past two years. I do DH riding in these shoes and in the pacific northwest where it's wet and muddy most of the time. I initially chose these based on price and appearance. Besides the obvious grip factor, the first thing I noticed was the sturdiness and my confidence went up not worrying about kicking a stump or landing hard. Fairly rigid feel and good support in arch and sole. You'll want to pull out the metal rings near the inside arch with some plyers. The threading is finally giving out and they're starting to fall apart around the toes. They have taken a beating though. I'll probably go with the ugly but functional Impacts for the ankle support and better wet weather suitability. Pros: nice looking, sturdy, good support for arch and sole. Cons: metal rings gouge your bike, low cut tends to pick up small rocks and debris, cloth soaks up water Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: July 10, 2012 Reviewed by: Eddie A., Washington Was this review Helpful? Super sticky shoe. Tough/rugged durability. Don't breath all that well but not horrible. Nice and wide but stay on your foot well. Pros: Great grip
Comfort
Durable Cons: Walking wears the sole quickly but it holds up fine on the pedals where they're meant to be anyways. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: June 21, 2012 Reviewed by: Joseph H., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
almost the perfect shoe I gave these over a month before I posted a review on them. These shoes are very comfortable. Fit my wide feet well. I wear them off the bike quite often. Not the best for that but better than typical cycling shoes by a long shot. When I get the money to put in a decent insole I imagine I can wear them even longer. I notice some flex in the soles while riding. Doesn't bother me. Durability so far seems a non issue but you need several months of abuse to really test that. And like EVERYONE says, they stick to the pins like they're fused on. Pros: Comfortable and superb traction, on and off the bike. Cons: Sole flex. A class of its own Five Ten's make some great Mountain bike shoes. The "Stealth Rubber" sole sticks like glue. It grips onto anything. And when you are riding, you feel you have clip on pedas. Its that good!
You can also wear these as casual shoes. Very comfortable. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 12, 2012 Reviewed by: Big John, Hong Kong Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Super gripy soles on flat pedals. Is basically a skate shoe with their special sole. Fits true to size, similar sizing to Vans. Looks well constructed but I haven't had them long enough don't know about durability. Pros: Gripy soles! Cons: Expensive for what it is. I have a pair of 5.10 impact mids, but also wanted a pair of low top bike shoes. The stealth rubber on the FreeRider grips every good as the impacts, and overall the shoe is a bit more comfortable. Wore them in a DH race in rainy/muddy conditions and didn't slip a pedal, so you can't ask for much more than that. The FreeRider is also has decent style to wear as a casual shoe. I've also had great experience with 5.10 customer service and warranty program in the past. Great shoes, great company. Pros: Grip! 5.10 customer service & warranty. Cons: A little pricey, but well worth it. They will last twice as long as regular shoes.
