No horizontal dropouts? Can even be used on an old road frame to achieve driveline tension. File the tabs of the inside of the tensioners (these sit in the inside of the horizontal dropouts)and you can use them on your old road frame with sloping dropouts.

simple, cheap and effective

First off, this is a set of two chain tensioners. Many of the options out there are actually sold as singles and I remember being unclear when I purchased them as to whether they were a pair or not. These have been on my bike for close to a year now, through the rainy season (there is no off season), and they have faithfully held my chain nice and tight the entire time. They are also very good for setting chain tension to begin with, before tightening your axle nuts. My one complaint is that the small protrusions that press against the dropouts could be slightly larger to make these easier to use, but it is a small complaint. They're not the prettiest, and they may not have a bottle opener, but i'm very happy with my purchase.

Pros: Cheap, no rust through rainy season, they work.

Cons: No bottle opener ;-)
