I have been a flat pedal user forever on all of my trail bikes, and was turned on to plastic/composite pedals last year. I've got grippy shoes as well and live in a dry area, but I don't have any issues slipping off, they feel great and I don't feel as bad bouncing them off of rocks. Pedal whacks don't hurt quite as bad compared to big gnarly metal pedals...
