Conti Trail King 2.2 This is an amazing all round tire. Larger volume than the maxxis ignitor 2.35 and grips better with the Black Chili compound. Wear is good so far but I've had them on for a 2 months only. The end of the season will tell.
Corners really good and the sidewalls are tough as nails.
Recommend to anyone looking for a exceptional tire. Pros: Large volume
Excellent grip
Cheaper than Maxxis
Better than Maxxis Cons: none Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: April 01, 2012 Reviewed by: Matthias R., Alberta Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
I have the 2.4 versions front and rear with the black chili compound. Great tire with large volume and rolls fairly well. I am running them tubless with no issues so far.
Pros: Very tacky.
Corners great on loose terrain.
High volume absorbs rocks and obstalces with ease.
Stable on high speed descents. Cons: A little spendy. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 27, 2012 Reviewed by: Scott G., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Great tire. I'm running the 2.4 up front. Traction is good - clears the slop pretty well, predictable corning, descent traction on wet rocks and roots. Overall I am very happy with this tire. I would run them again without hesitation. Reviewed on: January 05, 2012 Reviewed by: Dave M., Washington Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Hooks up well I put these on my SB-66 for aggressive trail and light FR and they're quite good. Nice volume, very wide for 2.2, great grip except for wet wood. They can corner hard but look out if you've got wet roots or woodwork. Pros: Very fast rolling, seems stiff enough for a light single ply. Great dry, loam, wet grip. Cons: Poor grip on wet roots and woodwork. This is not the DH black chili, it is harder. Favorite tire! Review is for the 2.2 Trail King, Black Chili w/ folding bead. Weighed mine at 658g and 660g, which is close enough to Conti's listed weights. Rear tire is on a DT Swiss EX500, front tire is on a Stan's Flow. Both are being run tubeless with no issues.
Ridden on various terrain with these and they're great for pretty much any trail. Extended sessions in muck and mire probably aren't their strong suit, but the times I've had them in thick slop they cleared the tread well enough. They held up just fine on the MRT in the lava rock sections where sidewalls are going to be scraped no matter what. Peterson Ridge's "Eagle's Rock" section can do some damage to tires as well and the Trail King's emerged unscathed.
The Black Chili compound is awesome on wet roots and rocks while having much better wear-life than I thought they would. Great all-around tire and I'm leaving them on for winter riding. Pros: Light, durable, great Black Chili compound. Cons: None. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: October 05, 2011 Reviewed by: D.Y., Oregon Was this review Helpful? This is for the 2.2. I put it on the rear and it was horrible. It felt super slow when going up. Going down grip was terrible. I'm going back to a Maxxis Ardent. Pros: None. Cons: Slow. No grip. Excellent tire! Great Tire - i run in in 2.2 front with about 1.9 bar on a ZTR crest rim - excellent grip, relatively low rolling resistance. No flats and little wear so far. haven't tried to set it up tubeless yet... Pros: Grip
Weight
rolling resistance
Cons: Not the cheapest tire around... Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: June 08, 2011 Reviewed by: Kai, Switzerland Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Conti Trail Kings Huge volume tire for stated size. I bought folding 2.2s. Are more like other brands' 2.35.
Super grippy. Fairly light. Pros: Super tacky. Light for their size Cons: Maybe a little slow(er) rolling on hardpack but that's something that I'm willing to put up with for the grip that these provide. Great for wet or loose conditions. Treads have great bite. Compound is on the firm side so tire is a little slippery on hard surfaces such as roots and rocks, but great on dirt. Recommended winter tire for trail bike. Pros: Great traction on loose terrain or in wet condition. Good weight. Cons: Not the best grip on hard surfaces. Great tire tremendous traction and light weight. The black chili compound is the best. Pros: Traction, light weight Cons: sidewalls are thin hard to set up tubeless without an air compressor Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 01, 2010 Reviewed by: Keith H., Massachusetts Was this review Helpful?
