Seems stiffer than my Ogre's fork I didn't think I would, but I really enjoy the forward facing dropouts. Makes entering and exiting my front wheel with the disc much easier (not like it's really hard the other way, so I guess it's a minimal positive aspect, but I do like it). I also like that the drops are stainless steel.
It's a pretty fork, with some long legs (suspension corrected). I ended up getting the shorter one (425mm) which was 5mm over the suggested A2C length on my SOMA 4one5 frame.
I heard it's painted, as opposed to powdercoated, which I don't think is as durable, but looks slighter better? Whatever.
One thing I notice, is that it may be stiffer than the Ogre's fork, but the stock fork on the Surly Ogre is 465mm, if my memory serves, so it's got the advantage there. Wait.
When I say stiffer, I don't mean the ride - it's got a very nice, dare I say plush, ride for a rigid fork - the stiffness I was referring to, is how my disk doesn't "ping" during torsional torque with these cromoto forkusses.
I use it on my "MTB Style" Single Speed rigid 26" beater bike for the mellow trails around here. Pros: it's black, forward facing, stainless drops, the Salsa LOGO is kind of cool Cons: it seems expensive for a steel (chromoly) rigid fork, but I'm old-school and cheap. It doesn't have the "anything cage" bottle mounts, not that I would use those things anyway. Best Bang for Buck I really like the work that Salsa does for their forks. I have owned three for my mountain bikes. The fork legs are straight bladed, have necessary eyelets and have nice dropouts. Pros: Absorbs the small stuff fairly well, but stiff enough for clear feadback. Cons: None Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 11, 2012 Reviewed by: Paul S., PDX Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Nice rigid fork after manual adjustment Quality finish on this fork and seems stable even in the washboards. My forks brake mount was built too far inboard. This caused the caliper to rub the rotor. Not the brake pad, the mounting portion and the CPS bolts were rubbing on the rotor. I had to bend the IS mount outwards away from the wheel. This caused the powder coating to chip. I'm hoping I have the only fork with this issue. Works great now, but, I worry about rusting where the paint has chipped now. Pros: light for cromo, fits 26 & 29 inch wheels, not as harsh as an aluminum rigid fork Cons: IS brake adapter not possitioned correctly causing caliper and bolt rub on the disc rotor. These forks are great These Salsa ridgid forks ae replacing my low end squishy forks on my hardtail. These are 100mm disc only with a nice fit and finish. The ride quality has greatly improved since installing this fork. The bike feels much more responsive and the forks have enough "give" to give a nice ride . The steerer tube is a generous 260mm , install was simple and hassle free. Pros: great looking fork ,nice ride ,easy install, tabs for brake cable. Cons: more colors would be nice Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 27, 2012 Reviewed by: Chris H., Chesapeake,VA Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Nicely finished and light My hardtail to hybrid project required a bit of headscratching over crown axle measurements and canti bosses. The Salsa Cromoto hit the target with the closest C-A dimension to a 100mm travel fork and a 26" disk only option. An added plus is Salsa's very nice finish and detailing with engraved stainless dropouts and a fabricated disk mount instead of the more common flat plate. Pros: Light (at least compared to a Surly Instigator), very nicely finished, available without canti bosses Cons: A little more expensive than Tange or Surly, brake hose guide spacing could be better Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: October 02, 2011 Reviewed by: Ed R., Oregon Was this review Helpful? These forks are awesome! I love them! The ride is perfect, they are damn sexy, my Schwalbe "Fat Franks" fit fine, and I would put them on another bike in a heartbeat. I'm running these on my Rock Lobster Team TIG SL with Paul Neo Retro's and I am very pleased. Pros: SS drop outs, well built. Steering quick, great up hill and DH too. It's a steel Salsa fork. They are all nice and well built. I used mine for a 650b fork, works perfect. If you're new to ridged forks, buy a Salsa one. These are a great value for the money and I've used almost every ridged fork in any price range.
