Should have bought this earlier. No more crappy snapped chain whips. This thing is very well made and will probably outlast me. It's not cheap but you really get what you pay for and there's nothing worse then crappy tools. Pros: It's stupid easy to operate. Quality construction. Cons: none. Pedro's Vise Whip Lockring Chain Whip I work in a local bike shop and have one of these in my personal tool box, won't use a chain whip if this is available. Pros: Never fails, I leave pre set for 12 tooth so 99% of time its ready to go. Cons: none Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: June 20, 2012 Reviewed by: David W C., New York Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
For years, I've used a standard chain whip and it's been fine. This tool takes it to a whole 'bother level of ease. You still need to use it with a wrench, but gone are the days of that chain flopping around. I set it for a cog size of 13T which covers all my cassettes for road and mountain use. Pros: MOre secure than a chain whip. Not annoying. Cons: Not inexpensive, but you'll have it forever. I am a tool geek, and I love clever tools. This one has been great, much less hassle than a chain whip and best of all it can easily be used on a cassette mounted to a freehub that is removed from the hub, like you can do with a DT Swiss hub. Try removing a lockring from a cassette/freehub sitting loose in your lap with a chainwhip...
It works just fine with 9 and 10 speed cassettes.
Nice thing is it should last forever. Pros: darn clever and easy to use Cons: a uni-tasker and more money than a chain whip Would Buy Again: No Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: August 02, 2011 Reviewed by: Barry M., British Columbia Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Best idea ever No more chain whips slipping off and no more bloody knuckles. This is a very well made tool and should last forever. If more leverage is required to hold the Vise Whip while you wield the lockring tool with the other hand, a piece of pipe around 20mm I.D. slips pver the handle with the knurled lock screw. Fits a wide range of cog sizes so just pick the one you want to grip while removing a cassette. Pros: Positive locking and will not slip off the cog.
Well made.
Good value if you use it a lot. Cons: Does not work with cogs for 1/8" chain.

Great idea! Great tool! Great design, much more positive than a conventional chain whip.
Easier on the cogs, easier to use. Pros: Easy to use, easy in cogs. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 02, 2010 Reviewed by: Gordy!, California Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
