Rotors Needed new rotors after bending originals Pros: Great rotors. Worked great.. little noisy but that's avid brakes for you Cons: $$ Rotors are spendy in my opinion. Easy to bend, but I can often get them back into usable condition. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: May 20, 2013 Reviewed by: Charlie s., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Avid G3 Rotors Avid made some changes to quiet down there brakes but I still get some squealing. The single piece rotor is a better deal than the two piece, and only a little heavier. Pros: Better than previous generation Avid rotors. Maybe a bit quieter. Cons: Still not silent like Shimano brakes. I've used many types of avid disc brakes and all sizes of rotors. Overall these discs perform quite well. If you bend them you, usually you can bend em back. Pros: stopping power Cons: occasional squeal. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: October 10, 2012 Reviewed by: es, Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
The performance of these rotors instill great confidence. I am a 200+ lbs biker and have never once felt I was in danger of losing my brakes. These rotors are great! Went with these over the roundagon rotors. The roundagon's made too much noise and these did not. Stopping power is about the same. Pros: Didn't make noise with hard braking. Stiff, light, inexpensive, what else could you want. Pros: Stiff

Will slow your fat @ss down I am a larger than average rider, not quite a Clydesdale, but I charge hard and the G3 does just what it is supposed to do. Came stock with my Elixir CR's and I bought a replacement after 2.5 years after an unfortunate incident with a rock.
On my 2010 Enduro they can make a noise that sounds like hitting a bagpipe with a sledge-hammer, but this seems to be a function of some weird physics involving the frame/caliper/pad/rotor combo. A little tweaking solves it for several hundred miles. Pros: (with elixir CR's, 185mm 6-bolt size)
fairly light
very little fade
big stopping power
good modulation Cons: Finicky setup with some bikes (caliper/pad centering is CRITICAL, as is proper pad bed-in) Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 11, 2012 Reviewed by: Sean S., Texas Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Avid G3 rotor I replaced my Avid 'roundagon' rotors with these and they perform much better mainly because they are plane out of the box. They seem stiffer too which helps get some extra modulation out of BB7 brakes. Pros: Light enough
Stiff enough
Much better than roundagons Cons: None that I can see Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: December 15, 2011 Reviewed by: Patrick, Australia Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
I have been running the G3 rotors for 2 years now and they run much more quiet then the G2 rotors. I cant say that I noticed a power difference but they are pretty quiet which I realy like Pros: Quiet and are consistant with stopping power Cons: None Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: November 12, 2011 Reviewed by: Pedro m., California Was this review Helpful? Work very well, quieter than G2's. I am especially impressed with the wet/mud performance. They clear themselves well. Relatively light compared to similar products. Pros: Good wet/mud performance. wonderful rotors Pretty straight forward. They work! Some people complain about the torx screws but I dig them. They never strip like a hex would. Pros: they make me stop Cons: none Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 02, 2011 Reviewed by: Dylan E., Washington Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Replaced standard G3 rotors with XX rotors when I got a new wheelset. I haven't noticed any difference between the two other than looks, even though there was a little disclaimer warning not to use them for real mountain biking (I'm paraphrasing). The torx screws are annoying cause it forced me to go out and buy a new tool and it doesn't feel like you really get extra torque on them. Just an annoying lawyer thing I guess. Pros: Alloy spider looks cooler than standard rotors. Cons: Torx screws make you buy more tools/carry more for trail repairs. Nice improvement on squeal compared to prior generation. Also seems to be less prone to warpage. I actually downsized the rear from 203 to 185mm for improved modulation... first ride break-in was Downieville and it worked great! Pros: Quiet, runs clean. Cons: A bit pricey. For me a rotor is a rotor as long as it does not squeak. I got the G3's to replace my G2's and the dreaded turkey warble wake the dead screech went away.
