strong and reliable These are strong and reliable bolts-- I've never stripped or sheared one, unlike the cheap stuff. Worth it for any bike you expect to ride long enough to need to replace a chainring. Pros: strong Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: May 12, 2012 Reviewed by: Matthew W., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
These are amazingly well machined and finished. As with most cro-mo bolts, they're prone to a bit of cosmetic rust, so as long as you're generally careful about not stripping bolts, you can rub a tiny daub of oil with your finger to prevent water or salt-induced rust. Classic chainring bolts Pros: These have been around forever because they are strong and reliable, can be tightened and set without worry breaking them Cons: Not as light as aluminum, but can be tightened without fear of breaking Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: August 31, 2011 Reviewed by: Ryan F., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Worked well on my Shimano SLX crankset. Steel construction is tougher than the stock aluminum bolts and harder to strip. Cheaper than Shimano bolts too. Pros: Steel, cheap Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: August 17, 2011 Reviewed by: Chad H., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Maybe it's a fluke, but I had a bit of trouble getting these to snug up my single speed cranks(these being the 6mm version). I installed washers to take up the slack, but I'll probably end up trying something that doesn't need a special and easy to lose tool to keep the backside in place when installing or removing. They seem solidly made, being Sugino and all, so if they work for you, keep using 'em! Good bolts, but possibly a bit weak I used a set of these to attach a bashguard and chainwheel to an old Sugino crankset. But after 6 months the crankset started to creak, and when I reassembled the parts after taking them apart for cleaning (and regreasing the bolts) one of the bolts broke in half during reassembly.
Another problem with them is that the heads tend to round if you don't get your allen wrench all the way down to the bottom of the bolthead. Would Buy Again: No Would Recommend: No Reviewed on: April 13, 2011 Reviewed by: David P., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Worked pretty well, rusted out a little to quick Pros: strong Cons: rusted quick Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: March 17, 2011 Reviewed by: Mike , Michigan Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
A nice high quality product from Sugino. Much better over the long term than aluminum or ti for just a few more grams in weight. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 29, 2011 Reviewed by: Tom R., California Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Excellent quality single ring type chainring bolts. These cinch up tight and have not loosened. Nice fit and finish & made of steel. Pros: Sugino High Quality & Precision.
Steel construction. Cons: what could be bad about them. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 09, 2011 Reviewed by: Charles G., Washington Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
If you are riding a SS or Fixed set up, then these are a must. Have ridden with ti and aluminium bolt sets, and they simply don't last. Good ol steel is the way for me. It may weigh a few more grams that the gucci stuff, but I aquire that much mud on my frame after one ride. The only down side of this set up is no allen or torx fitting on the nut. But, still deserves 5*. Pros: They work! Cons: none Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 19, 2010 Reviewed by: Dave M., Washington Was this review Helpful? If you are single speeding a crankset or already riding fixed, these are a great choice. I got sick of wearing out and breaking AL bolts. Only 4 stars since back bolt is not allen or torx. Pros: Steel. Good value. Cons: Still need special chain ring tool for back side to get properly tight. No more worrying about breaking aluminum chain ring bolts. There is a minor (a few grams) weight penalty for using steal chainring bolts but it's worth it. The finish has stayed on, no rusting. Pros: Works Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 02, 2010 Reviewed by: Daniel, Rhode Island Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
