No frills, but it works I wasn't looking for adjustability, but just some way to anchor the housing for a center-pull brake. It does that well, but I needed to sand down the mounting hole to make it thin enough to fit between the blades of the seatpost clamp. Pros: No frills, it just works Cons: The casting is a little thick Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 15, 2013 Reviewed by: David P., Oregon Was this review Helpful? my first bike build problem i had gotten a disc brake frame and needed a rear hanger. this guy fixed the problem. strudy and very thin. hardly knew it was there. Pros: light and durable. Cons: can loose cable cup if not careful. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: May 02, 2012 Reviewed by: brad P., Wisconsin Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
This hanger provided us with a simple solution for a brake line problem, and it did the job, although you are relying on something hanging off a bolt to guide your cabling. It works fine, given that the task we expect is pretty sketchy. If you have no other solution, but need this to cap off the housing on the end of a cable run, it will work, just might need you to reach down and adjust every once in a while. Cons: Hard to keep the connection sturdy. Would Buy Again: No Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: November 12, 2011 Reviewed by: Western Edge, Washington Was this review Helpful? For the price you can't complain It's a cable hanger for only a few bucks. Sure, it should be a little longer and have a barrel adjuster, but it's cheap. Tektro should also make a fancier version and charge more. Pros: Works, shiny, light, simple Cons: Short, no tension adjuster Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 19, 2011 Reviewed by: David M., Maryland Was this review Helpful? Useless This hanger is too short. I was unable to get a clean cable run through this thing. The cable always rubbed where it exited the hanger. Buy the Surly hanger, it is longer and has a built in adjuster. More money, less headache. Pros: Well, it is shiny. Cons: Does not work. Also, once you open the package, the little doo-hickey that the housing sits in will fall out on the floor and bounce under something heavy. I agree with some of the other reviewers. The cable hanger is relatively attractive and it does what you need at a decent price, it should be longer and it should have an adjustment barrel, as opposed to brass cable-stop 'cup' Pros: inexpensive
works as designed
shiny Cons: needs to be longer
needs adjustment barrel (instead of easily misplace-able housing stop ferrule Would Buy Again: No Would Recommend: No Reviewed on: July 22, 2011 Reviewed by: richard b., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Basic rear cable hanger. It works alright. Should be a little longer, and it would be nice if it came with an adjustment barrel. Would Buy Again: No Would Recommend: No Reviewed on: February 26, 2011 Reviewed by: Michael S., Golden, CO Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
cheap, no-nonsense hanger I bought this to replace the hanger on my '04 Surly Cross Check when I switched back to cantis-- I'd lost the original. I tried a different model from a different manufacturer and found that it was too wide to fit between the seatpost clamp (the stock Surly "Constrictor"). This Tektro one, however, is identical to the stock Cross Check hanger, and worked like a charm.
It's easy to lose the cable stop "cup", though, so make sure you keep the two pieces together if you're going to be storing it away. Pros: Compatible with Surly Cross Check, affordable Cons: Easy to lose cable stop Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: November 23, 2010 Reviewed by: Matthew W., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Versatile component! I got this for my CX bike to run cantilever brakes. While it is designed for use on the rear break to attach to the seatpost collar, its also has other uses, like the front brake. Since my bike had no steerer tube left to facilitate a front cable hanger, I modified the opening on this to work with my Thomson X4 stem. Within no time I was able to route the front brake cable under the stem and into these (which was hanging from the opposing lower face-plate bolt. It has been working without a single issue for nearly 3 seasons!
Also makes for a really lightweight solution over traditional hangers! Pros: lightweight, cheap, versatile Cons: Might be good in longer lengths Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: November 01, 2010 Reviewed by: Thomas L., Ontario Was this review Helpful?
