Must have for fork mount carrier with a Maxle Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 24, 2012 Reviewed by: Patrick C., Washington Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
I prefer a fork mounted bike roof rack than one that hold two wheels. This is just what I needed to mount my thru-axle fork to the fork-mounted bike rack. It does take a little more work but it's better than raising my 45lb dh bike over my head to get my bike on top of my suv. Taking off the front wheel also allows me to mount the bike inside my suv. My one problem with this is that it's not as secure and would require you to lock your bike down via a cable/chain. works well It worked great for years until someone swiped it out of the back of my truck. I should mention it's made of steel and rusts (when you carelessly leave it in the back of a truck). Also, there was a bit of welding slag stuck in the tube that I had to file out before I could get a maxel through it. No big deal, but worth mentioning. Good enough to license to Yakima You know there's something special about an aftermarket product when it's so good that a giant brand like Yakima will pay to license your patents.
The Fork Up does exactly what it should, letting you mount a thru-axle fork to a standard QR leg Pros: Functional Cons: length appears ever so slightly short, making it a little fussy to get the same result when tightening a Maxle-Lite. Does what it's supposed to, no fuss no muss. Paint coverage is not as good on inside of tube, which can start to rust if you leave it on your car all the time in wet weather. Simple fix is a light coat of grease on inside of tube. This also ensures thru-bolt slides through easily when mounting bike. Pros: Works as advertised. Cons: Need to grease to prevent rust. Good hookup for mountain bike I bought this when I got my new mountain bike so that I could use my old fork mounts. I bought a locking old style fork clamp and use that to attach this to my truck. That way I can leave it in place in the back of my truck. Direction say to attach to bike first, but I find that more difficult. If you were using a roof rack, then that may be the better way. Pros: strong, easy to use Cons: hard to figure what size adaptor will fit bike, as there are many different oversized forks.
