  • 6 bolt rotors include bolts
  • 6 bolt and Center Loc rotors are interchangable with all shimano disc brakes as long as the hubs and rotor size match the caliper

These rotors are excellent. They are quiet and easy to install. XTR would be a bit lighter if you are concerned about adding uneccessary weight.

Pros: Easy to install and remove with centerlock. Quite and squeek free braking.

ice tech rotors

6-bolt configuration of ice-tech rotors sizes 160, 180 and 200. These have been very quiet and mount very well to standard 6-bolt pattern hub. Used with Saint and XT brakes with excellent modulation. Have been hit on a rock and stayed true.

Pros: quiet, even in the wet

Cons: slightly more cost

Got the Shimano XT brakes to replace the Avid Elixir 5s on my XC bike. Huge difference in braking performance especially with the ice tech rotors and heat sinks on the brake.

Pros: Less brake fade especially on long descents in hot weather.

Cons: None.

Purchased with XT Brakes this system works great. The Ice Tech system actually delivers, the long downhill sections we ride cause my friends variety of brakes to fade and turn the rotors blue. My XT's however do not, it's the only brake system I've tried that really shine in abusive situations.

Pros: No brake fade

Cons: Maybe not the lightest

SLX centerlock rotors are wicked nice

These rotors are very nice. The rotor seems slightly wider than Avid rotors. This additional width may come at a slight weight penalty but they seem to stop better. Also, they make less noise. Installation was simple **as long as you have a lock ring tool**. Also these rotors don't get along with Avid BB7 brakes very well. I had to trim one of the tab off the inside brake pad on the rear brake because it impacted the rotor. It works fine now after using my Dremel tool to fix the problem.

Pros: Quality
Ease of installation

Cons: May not be compatible with Avid BB7s

Shimano RT86M (180mm) XT M785 Ice Tech 6 Bolt Rotor

Great rotor, last long time with no warping due to thickness. Resist fade as advertised with Ice tech design, even when used on non Ice Tech brakes.

Pros: Long lasting, thick and keeps fade at bay

Cons: Little pricey if anything, otherwise none

Shimano rotors always seem a little sturdier, and usually run truer. Plus, if you need a centerlock mount, they're usually the least expensive. At $16, the SM-RT53 is a great deal. Might not be the lightest rotor on the market, but construction and materials are first-rate.

Pros: Low price
Runs straight/true

Cons: SM-RT53 only compatible with organic pads
Somewhat heavy

Need 'em to stop

Don't like that Shimano fleeces us to buy rotors once we have already dropped serious scratch for hydro brakes, but I guess I had a choice in the matter. The rotors work very well--seem to dissapate heat well and have not deformed over time.

Pros: Ice-Tech technology seems to works quite well. No deformation to date.

Shimano rotors are reliable stoppers

Nothing fancy or great about plain shimano rotors. not the heaviest of the lighest, but definitely the most dependable. Consistant performance.

Pros: Never any brake issues.

Heavier than Avid rotors but the Icetech rotors perform so much better (weight for the Icetech rotors on my scale were 132g for the 180 and 112g for the 160). Amazing rotors and brakes from Shimano have me wishing I'd gotten rid of my Avids so much sooner.

Ice Tech v.1

I'm not sure if these rotors have more efficient cooling than standard rotors, but Shimano did tests and says that it's improved, so I'm going to believe them. It's too hard to tell on the trail - I don't say this to make it sound like Ice Tech is an upgrade you can't feel, because it's an upgrade that I'm sure we'll all benefit from, but it's hard to do tests on the trail since there are too many variables to control. It's a good rotor that I bet saves me some arm pump. And I'd like to think that it's a tad lighter too!

Pros: Ice Tech looks cool, works great

Cons: Centerlock is a better standard than 6 bolt, but unfortunately 6 bolt is the standard so these are hard to find hubs for. Not really Shimano's fault per se - just crappy that Centerlock is not the standard.

Great replacement rotor

To try something different on my DH bike, I switched out my stock Avid rotors (203/185mm)to Shimano XT rotors (203/180mm)with the aluminum carriers. Not only lighter than the Avid rotors, they're also supposed to run a little cooler. I can't say if they run cooler, but they work at least as well if not better than the original Avids.

Pros: Lighter, run cooler (supposedly), look trick

Cons: None

I like the Ice-Tech rotors. I "think" there is a difference between your typical rotor, but wouldn't bet my life on it. The rotors have done well for me so far, providing lots of power and staying true. They are pretty quiet as well, just making some noise when wet. Plus, they look good as well to me!

Bought these with the SLX 666 brakes. These are great rotors and are lighter weight than the previous generation. They stay nice and true and don't warp like my older Avids or Shimanos.

Pros: Great rotor, lighter weight, no warping.

I got the bolt on rotors for my Hope hubs.

I prefer cross drilled rotors to the new ones with giant holes.

With smaller holes you get more even heating and cooling, which means no hot spots.

Going on one year and zero problems so far.

ICETech 203mm -- great stopping power!

I've run:
Hayes V8 and V7
Avid 185mm
Shimano 160mmm, 203mm (non-ICE)

These are by far the best rotors that I've used. They are a bit spendy, but while upgrading to the m785 disc brakes I decided to go with the whole ICE package since they are designed to be used together (ICE pads, M785 calipers and ICE rotors). So far I am please with them. My only complaint has been the squealing that I get when the brakes get wet. I've used XT 765s before with 203 rotors on rainy rides. Those would quiet down after a few taps of the brakes. However, the M785s w/ICE rotors continue to squeal. I'm wondering if the entire ICE system just doesn't get hot enough to dry the rotors/pads during a wet ride. On a long decent they eventually stopped squealing for me, but started up again shortly after going through some water.

For aggressive AM, FR or DH I'd recommend the ICE rotors combined with the ICE system.

Pros: - stays cool (almost too cool on wet rides)
- stopping power is great

Cons: - squeals when wet (but likely a combination of pad type, caliper alignment and wheel setup.

A little heavy, but a vast difference in stopping power on any system.
Hard to trust as they look like they will delaminate at any moment.
I rode a set very hard last year and 0 issues.

People often make a snide comment about my carbon fiber super bike, but these same people are often on the 2 direction trails and don't bother to think about the excessively expensive brakes on said bike is what just averted a nasty head on collision...

Pros: stop, and stop quickly

Cons: touch heavy
i'd hate to get one that wasn't bonded properly
