Shimano are the best skewers IMHO. Work great and don't open while riding. External cam skeweres just aren't dependable as Shimano's internal cam. Pros: Great design Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: March 23, 2013 Reviewed by: Fred M., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Shimano skewers are great. The clamp mechanism is strong and easy to adjust. I have never had a tire slip using these skewers. I highly recommend them if black or silver skewers will match you bike color scheme. Pros: Quality
Clamping strength
Ease of adjustability Cons: none Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: February 12, 2013 Reviewed by: Paul P., Virginia Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
These Shimano Q/R skewers are very durable, and clamp down tighly, but are a little heavier than other designs. But this is one area that I do not focus on weight savings because safety, security, and durability are more important to me in affixing axles to dropouts. Shimano Q/R skewers have the best locking cam design that I have used, and provides a strong hold for my rear wheel in the horizontal dropouts. I have a Q/R seat tube collar with a titanium bolt, and wonder if a titanium skewer could become and option on the Shimano Q/R skewers. Pros: Provides a strong hold and keeps the wheel axle in place
Reasonable cost
Durable
Affixes the wheel axle in a safe and secure manner Cons: It is a little heavier than other designs. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: October 22, 2012 Reviewed by: Rus, Texas Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
After years of using salsa skewers I went back to Shimano on both of my bikes. Simply because there is no guess work on how tight to get them and the closed cam lasts longer and is easier to use in my opinion. Pros: Better function than most aftermarket skewers Cons: None, maybe color options would be nice.. It's a skewer. It works well and is very durable. running it on the rear of my all mountain rig where though axles are popular but it holds it's own and can't be complained about or really noticed at all which is what I want in a part like this. Pros: Does the job and doesn't complain when abused Cons: None Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: May 02, 2012 Reviewed by: Joseph H., Oregon Was this review Helpful? You can't beat quality I bought this because I have some other light weight skewers that bug me. They don't like to open. So I went back to the old stand buy. I have 4 sets of wheels and they all now have XT or XTR skewers. They just work good. Always! They might be a few grams more, but if you've ever tried to open a skewer, dog tired and dripping with sweet, and it just won't without a leverage tool, it can ruin your day. So they may not be light and shiny, but they make it better by having your back. Pros: Always work. Built to last for years when used properly. Cons: Not the lightest. Come in 2 colors. Best Quick Release Skewer Made I did quite a bit of research on quick release skewers and discovered that Shimano has a patent on this design. It is an interal cam system and the best on the market. Riders across the web give these high marks. I only ride XT skewers now and I have never had one come loose on my rigid bike that sees lots of off road miles. Best product in the segment. Pros: Patented design, high clamping force, won't come loose even in the face of vibration. Cons: none Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 27, 2011 Reviewed by: Ty, SoCal Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Awesome skewer power. This is the skewer I buy when I need one. I use these on my road racer and cross bike for a secure front end feel. I only will use these, dura-ace, or ultegra for serious riding.
In comparison, I've used generic shimano, sram, reynolds, and easton which have come with respective wheelsets. They all have inferior clamping mechanisms, and generally suck. The reynolds caused my rear wheel to come loose once in the middle of an intersection. The eastons bend easily. Pros: Not for weight weenies. Cons: Set it and forget it. Strong, secure, no frills. The best at holding you wheels on. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: June 26, 2011 Reviewed by: Richard A., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Bought this to replace an older lower-end Shimano skewer that had been stripped a bit so it was difficult to loosen when tight. This one is lighter and has a better closing mechanism with better modulation and the clasp looks cool as well. Used for over a year now and no issues. Not real blingy, but works great like most things Shimano. Pros: Light, nice progressive feel when closing quick release, durable Cons: I guess not super flashy if that's your style Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: January 06, 2011 Reviewed by: David R., Pennsylvania Was this review Helpful? They clamp down reliably and don't bind. Internal cam is great for maximizing clamping force for the same effort. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: October 01, 2010 Reviewed by: Jeffrey, Maryland Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
great skewer.revised refined model based on the classic old school shimano skewer design which is still arguably the best QR skewer ever Pros: classic shimano QR cam design mechanism Cons: none Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 17, 2010 Reviewed by: Steven K., Hawaii Was this review Helpful? these are the some of the best QR skewers you can buy. Not the lightest but they are very strong and clamp better than anything else save a bolt-on skewer. I used my rear skewer on a singlspeed with horizontal dropouts and the wheel never slipped at all in a year of riding. They save your hands too because they achieve more clamping force with less effort on the QR lever.
