Don't let the snow stop you The Nokian Gassa Extreme 29r tire is an amazing snow tire in most situations. It's biggest advantage over other snow tires is it's ability to go where you want it to and not where ruts from cars or other bicycles are going. This is a problem in the NW because our snow usually melts partially during the day and then refreezes at night with all those ruts cast solidly in it. I have ridden several different brands and models of studded snow tires and one of them did much better in light fluffy snow than this tire but this tire still rides better than most other tires in powder. I found that I ride faster in the snow than I had on the other snow tires I have tried, but slower on bare pavement due to it's width and aggressive tread. I have not lost any studs yet. I ride aggressively on snow and ice, but then I ride carefully when I hit bare pavement because others have complained of stud loss. Pros: Ability to climb out of ruts. Amazing grip on snow and ice. Cons: This tire is not meant for bare pavement or well plowed roads. Wide aggressive tread will slow you down on bare pavement. Amazing, amazing tire. I can track in two inches of snow as well as I can with my regular knobbies on hard pack dirt. I can't believe how well they hold to the trail. If you want to ride your favorite trail no matter what the weather, look no further. Pros: Grip anywhere, anytime.
Don't stop riding when the conditions get questionable. Cons: If you have to ask about the weight, don't buy them. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: June 01, 2011 Reviewed by: Andrew K., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Good Winter tires Works on Ice, packed snow and frozen dirt.
Nothing really works in snow. Dont buy expecting to ride in a few inches + of snow. Pros: grips on anything frozen and solid Cons: will lose studs on every ride,
Really heavy,
will not grip in thick snow Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: October 01, 2010 Reviewed by: J. E C., New Jersey Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Ice biking is a ton of fun! When the terrain is frozen every route becomes an adventure even the paved roads. These tires will not offer floatation like some of the new snow tires, but in hard pack conditions they provide a lot of stability. They are heavy and slow but that is a small price to pay for added stability. They are expensive but not compared to a broken hip. Studs will fall out but replacements and tool is available at UC. Pros: Ride in the winter.
Impress your friends.
The neighbors will think your crazy. Cons: Weight and cost. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: September 15, 2010 Reviewed by: Roman M., Oregon Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
