Chris King Classic Cross High Flange Rear Hub
> Hubs & Parts > Road Hubs > Chris King Hubs
Chris King hubs are the most sought after hubs on the market today, not only are they 100% made in good ole Portland Oregon! but they are a perfect blend of art and engineering into a functional long lasting hub. With the legendary King sealed bearings you know these hubs will roll smooth for years and they are 100% serviceable unlike other hubs made overseas.
All of Chris Kings rear hubs utilize the patented RingDrive™ engagement mechanism. RingDrive™ uses 72 engagement teeth on each drive ring. That means the hub engages over 3 times quicker than the standard 24 tooth pawl-type freehub. Trying to get started again in the middle of a steep uphill section? Going for the surprise jump to drop your buddies? This unique design offers instant and positive engagement that's capable of handling a torque load of over 800ft/lbs, or over three times more than most other high end hubs we've tested. It is the heart of King hub and all the rest is built around it.

Chris King Hub on Rivendell Custom This hub can be heard when coasting. Sounds like a swarm of angry hornets.
If you prefer whisper quiet hubs - that might bother you. But these extra pawls in the freehub cause the hub to engage much quicker than most other hubs.
I really like this hub Pros: Much quicker engagement. Cons: It's loud - sounds like a swarm of hornets when coasting. Would Buy Again: Yes Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: November 16, 2011 Reviewed by: Corwin Z., California Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Chris King Classic Cross High Flange Rear Hub I've used these hubs on my cross and road bike and have had no issues at all. The hubs have an angry bee buzzing sound when you coast...especially when going down a steep road which I think is really nice. The bearings are excellent and spin smoothly. This is an excellent bombproof hub that can handle the rigors of cross and bumpy commutes with no problem. Pros: Strong, excellent quality, worth every penny, cool buzzing sound when coasting, bombproof, and best of all its made in USA! Cons: None...its all worth it. Excellent hub, BUT difficult to service These hubs are top of the line, precision made, durable, and expensive. BUT you must use the very expensive and time consuming KIng hub tool to do a full service lube on them. If you have your local shop do this for you, it probably won't be an issue.
I would recommend them to a friend with the above warning. Pros: Durable
Angry bee sound.
Fully serviceable. Cons: Expensive.
Full service is difficult and time consuming for this amateur mechanic, and it requires an expensive special tool, and expensive special grease. Would Buy Again: No Would Recommend: Yes Reviewed on: December 02, 2010 Reviewed by: Peter , Utah Was this review Helpful? Yes No Report as Inappropriate
Best hub I've used. The high flange helps keep the rim true under my 210lbs. Instant engagement like you would expect and the buzz is still there.
